For me it's interior design (Caroline Winkler and Woodward Throwbacks) or cycling (NorCal Cycling, Bikefit James). Cleans things up right quick.

I’ve been sayin this forever: it turns out that 45 years of declining funding for public education has maybe not been the best idea we ever had.

if Eliezer Yudkowsky was born into a somewhat poorer family and missed a couple lucky breaks, he’d have ended up as an archetypal specimen of your friend’s older cousin who keeps boa constrictors and makes you listen to him talk about quantum physics in his parent’s basement in exchange for weed

I absolutely can't stand the "I don't watch much TV" humblebrag, but seriously: I've never heard of at least a third of these, and probably close to half. wtf.

I need younger generations to understand how weird it is that trump is such a unique terrible fuck up that it’s actually correct to blame the president for a demonstrably shittier economy and costs

My sister owns multiple horses in rural Fort Worth. Her bright ruby red equestrian friends are all _incandescent_ with rage over the cost of running their trucks and horse trailers, and it's all directed squarely at Trump.

In the redder parts of the country where I've lived, you could with the right questionnaire almost certainly get the same sample of people to say that New York was both 60% Muslim and 60% Jewish.

Ankle monitors are a little over the top; surely they could just wear, like... a cloth patch on their shirts? Maybe a big "H" in yellow? If you don't see what's coming here, I don't know how to make you.

100% guaranteed that those kids can tell. Ages and ages ago Michael Stipe said (paraphrased): "There will come a time when you no longer understand the music that kids are making. At that point it is your responsibility so STFU and let them have their fun."

Bluesky should go back to invites, continue aggressive bot bans, create a Craigslist-style marketplace (since you’re more likely to buy/get services from a educated or good person on here than any other social network), and market this place like a walled garden protected from enshittification.

So embarrassing when people think the point of reading a novel is to know the plot, so a summary is just as good. The plot isn’t important, you rube. You absolute simpleton. The point of reading a novel is to find out what the characters are eating and start thinking about what you want for dinner.

There are most certainly outtakes from The Apprentice that could have helped short circuit this early. But Mark Burnett chose his own wealth and power (and eventual ambassadorship) over the good of the country, and should be counted as one of the worst enablers of All This.

There are 64 LED overhead lights in the main part of our house, and four halogen bulbs above the primary bathroom sinks. Those four halogens burn more electricity than all 64 of the LEDs combined.

I like to tell people that the thing boards learned from the colossal credit card breach at Target is that in the long run, things like this don't matter. You fire a c-level or two, you have one or two off quarters, and then, if you're big enough to start with, none of it ever happened.

NYC's response to the Knicks' run is an explicit rejection of Trumpism. Civic engagement is at an all-time high. Fearmongering about public safety was crushed by the hundreds of spontaneous watch parties. Unimaginably diverse groups rallying behind a sense of collective identity.
