A friend on slack says "I have a ton of work to do before EOD, and I need a shower, a nap, and a juice box. Only one of those things is happening anytime soon."

I reply: "Enjoy your nap!"

My dear Kodos. 18 years old, diabetic, has maybe 6 teeth left, can barely trot for more than about 30 feet, sleeps a solid 20 hours a day. Taken moments before she bolted, caught a mourning dove in flight, and ran inside the house with it.

A letter from the City of Tucson, Arizona directed to a data center construction manager. Tucson had forbidden any city resources from being used in the construction, and were _furious_ to discover that its general contractor had fraudulently obtained a construction water meter at a different location and was illegally trucking Tucson water to the site. The city has repossessed the meter and demands two acre-feet (652,000 gallons) of water credits as compensation.

"Friends" is a beloved American sitcom that aired from 1994 to 2004, following six young adults—Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe—living in New York City. The show explores their friendships, romances, careers, and personal growth over ten seasons.
The cast of Living Single, which Friends mercilessly ripped off.

In grad school, my classical sociology theory professor took the time read aloud Marx's famous passage about religion. Bob was a brilliant orator who spoke in a perfectly timed cadence; he paused at the end and said, sadly: You don't get this kind of writing in the American Journal of Sociology.
Religion is, indeed, the self-consciousness and self-esteem of man who has either not yet won through to himself, or has already lost himself again. But, man is no abstract being squatting outside the world. Man
is the world of man — state, society. This state and this society produce religion, which is an inverted consciousness of the world, because they are an inverted world. Religion is the general theory of this world, its encyclopaedic compendium, its logic in popular form, its spiritual point d'honneur, its enthusiasm, its moral sanction, its solemn complement, and its universal basis of consolation and justification. It is the fantastic realization of the human essence since the human essence has not acquired any true reality. The struggle against religion is, therefore, indirectly the struggle against that world whose spiritual aroma is religion.

Religious suffering is, at one and the same time, the expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.

Kodos helped me watch the final round of four man bobsled.
A picture of my legs while I lay on the couch watching Olympic bobsledding. The TV and a grandfather clock are in the background; there's part of a red cable-knit blanket on my shins and my cat is adorably peeking out from under the rest of it.

Day 7 #HackerFit 28 day challenge. 3x10 minute threshold efforts: one ramp, one up & down pyramid, and one 30 second over/under. I love these; should have done another.

Day 6 #HackerFit 28 day challenge. The plan called for 2 hours endurance on the trainer, but it's 75F in Tucson so outdoors we went.

Day 5, #HackerFit 28 day challenge. Failed to record yesterday's HIIT session but it was a killer- so today was an easy 35 minutes on the trainer. Barely broke 100 BPM but recovery days are super important...

Inspired by @alyssam-infosec.com I am reminded that I'm just stupidly out of shape and haven't been on the bike more than a dozen times since El Tour de Tucson. That stops today. 4 week #HackerFit challenge, starting with an easy warmup.

Why does the entire industry look like they had a logo drawing contest and the only rule was “eat this acid and draw a butthole”?

I love you, man, but if you ever cause me to read prose like this again I will not be responsible for my actions.
Ryan Lizza writes:

It is surreal now to think back to that room, the one overlooking the courtyard garden that became a metaphor for our decade-long entanglement. It was dazzling during spring’s full bloom and foreboding when winter stripped all signs of life. And lurking underground, way in the back, was the invasive bamboo, which grows like a cancer, and if not tamed, would march through the entire courtyard and kill everything.

I cannot find the person who made this- during the 45 admin- but there is no better representation of my current thinking, and I am 100% making my own for the next local rally.
A picture of a protest poster from the 1st Trump administration. The Clash guitarist, Joe Strummer, is pictured on stage at the height of his powers, microphone in hand, embodying the great Clash line "let fury have the hour, anger can be power, you know that you can use it."

Overlaid is a quote from Henry Rollins: "This is not a time to be dismayed. This is punk rock time. This is what Joe Strummer trained you for."

Seeing @katewagner.bsky.social despair this morning, and facing my own every day, I keep reminding myself of this, and pushing forward. The lesson we learned in the Reagan years was: in person contact with others matters. We are legion if we stick together.
