Toronto gay philanthropist Salah Bachir has died.
The 519 is saddened to learn of the passing of Salah J. Bachir, C.M., O.Ont., prominent Canadian entrepreneur, philanthropist, arts patron, author, and tireless advocate for 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

As Honorary Patron of The 519, Salah played a transformative role in the organization’s growth and impact. In 2004, he spearheaded the successful capital campaign to expand and renovate The 519, a contribution recognized through the naming of the Salah J. Bachir Wing. He also led The 519 Annual Gala for nearly two decades, helping raise critical funds to support the organization’s year-round programs and services.

Salah’s passing is a deep loss to our organization and for our communities. The Salah Bachir Fund has been set up in honour of his wishes and his life and legacy. It will provide emergency financial aid, groceries, and vital livelihood support to LGBTQ+ refugees who are clients of The 519.

As a kid, I participated in remembrance ceremonies a lot. Traveled to Holland and Vimy as a kid to sing at war monuments and memorials, singing Never Again. In 2002, it all changed -- "not so much a vigil as a war rally" was how the ceremonies now went, because Canada was in Afghanistan.

This comes a bit out of nowhere, and is for a VERY limited audience, but highly recommend that for any indie film makers out there, you include language in your contract that there is a path to buying back or regaining your film after a certain amount of time. It’s my one regret with MUTE.

The Liberals and Conservatives teamed up again today — funny how that keeps happening — to get Bill C-39 over the hurdle of its first vote. The massive, 243-page bill bulldozes environmental protections, Indigenous rights and attacks the right to strike. Here's what this means:

It's always nice when we can stop pretending that zoning was ever about separating residential uses from polluting uses and acknowledge that it (a) treats renters as pollutants to be segregated from "real" residents and (b) concentrates them near other polluting uses like large roads. More honest.
Adding 8+ units into a SFH lot. Monstrosities that are too dense for the area and adding a full apartment building in the middle of the block ruins interesting and old neighbourhoods. I feel like I've been quite clear on this thus far. Those are potential positives, sure. This whole debacle could have been avoided if a) council didn’t blanket zone and allow Wild West building b) allowed higher denser units on corner lots or busy streets only and capped med blocks to duplex’s. Would have kept everyone happy and allowed for growth.

This is NOT about using Claude to be cruel to people, write racist shit, or anything like that. It's about being mean to the model itself. www.anthropic.com/news/2026-us...
Addressing abusive behavior toward our models

We’ve added a prohibition on sustained and needless abusive or cruel behavior toward our models. The policy update is meant to apply only in extreme cases, where users repeatedly act cruelly toward our models, with no discernible purpose. It does not apply to common versions of user frustration, pushback, dark creative themes, or model testing and research.

This addition aligns with a step we've already taken, allowing Claude models to end rare conversations with persistently abusive users on Claude.ai and Claude Code. Such abuse is the main focus of this update; Claude’s ability to end these interactions will remain the primary enforcement mechanism.
