A Canaanite woman from that region came out and started shouting... Matthew 15:22a, NRSVue This time I suddenly had the thought: Wait, was she REALLY shouting? Like, shouting shouting? Or it did just *feel* like she was shouting because nobody expected her to be, like, moderately assertive?

I couldn't care less about TB's share price, my guy. What I DO care about is a serious problem in public health. Nobody wants to cooperate with authorities to find where outbreaks came from! Because the person/company/country that's the most helpful & finds the problem? ALWAYS GETS BLAMED FOR IT.

A red admiral butterfly (Vanessa atalanta) is perched in profile on a purple flower, with its head pointing downwards. Its antennae and proboscis are visible. The wings are folded, but the patterned upper surface of the wings – with striking red, white and bluish accents on a dark background – is still partially visible. The underside is brownish, which serves as camouflage. The butterfly is feeding on nectar from the tubular flowers of a buddleia. The background consists of a soft, light-green and lilac blur (bokeh).

One time when I was at this convention center, eating a boxed lunch outdoors, I saw falcons flying around. Needless to say, I now carry all my meals outdoors. (No, it's not always a boxed lunch. You pick up your plate and you walk out with it. People are confused, but they don't stop you.)

Today's #BirdoftheDay is all about #texture - something I really enjoy capturing in my art, such as with this quick painting of a White-breasted Nuthatch creeping down a fuzzy lichen-covered branch. 🪶 #BirdArt #SciArt
Illustration of a White-breasted Nuthatch creeping downward along a lichen-covered branch. This small bird has a pointy little upturned bill, white face and breast that fades to chestnut on the flanks, a charcoal gray cap and blue-gray back. Dappled sunlight illuminates its back half. I always think that if I get up before dawn to go birding then I'll have a wonderful experience and I'll think to myself, "why don't I do this more often?" I always end up drinking coffee in my car, vaguely fantasizing about more sensible hobbies that don't start until at least noon.

We need to stop assuming that airborne transmission is rare/unlikely, and start teaching what airborne transmission actually looks like, so that people can take the kinds of precautions that are actually helpful, rather than wasting time on hygiene theater.

The Seed Song
A chipping sparrow is humming to itself while hopping around a forest floor in early spring. New plants are sprouting through fallen years from the year before. Zoom in on the bird in the second panel as it sings "I never had a seed that I didn't like / dry ones hard ones sharp ones even taste alright / if you don't eat them fast, they turn into a grass! / if you let them be, they become a tree!" It stops to munch on some morsels of sparrow food, whatever that is, at the base of a plant that towers over its head. It looks up and up. The final frame is zoomed out to see the top of the plant, which is a trillium. The sparrow cheerily says "Good morning!". And that's how you make a comic!

This Lesser Celandine (Ficaria verna) looks pretty, but it's the only flower I can see in any direction! In less infested areas of the same park, there are 6-8 species of native wildflowers visible, and that's just the ones that are already blooming. 🌿 🌱

Three important bits of context: 1. White mainliners are generally considered more conservative than their clergy, which is why Trump has often won them by small-ish margins. 2. Per PRRI, white mainliners/non-evangelicals are just as large as white evangelicals at 13% — so softening here matters…

And the more recent “smarter” models are getting worse at telling the truth, because the testing systems rate getting a question completely wrong the same as saying “don’t know” (i.e. zero). On average, the Ai model gets better scores by guessing, and it’s trained to optimise its scores.

You have two choices when marginalized groups inform you of harmful language. You can listen, learn, and adjust yourself to be less harmful. Or, You can say "nuh-uh" and keep harming people. Which one you choose reflects what type of person you are.
