There is a great new client for Android: play.google.com/store/apps/d... Syncterm level ANSI/CP437 support, it's quite nice.

Interesting, doesn't look like figlet, but maybe? Pretty wild if the vendor made a bespoke implementation for this!

Yep, exactly. I've always known 8-bit micro BASICs like on C64 had the SYS statement, and if you knew how the interpreter used memory you could hack it that way. For some reason I assumed the PC was too complex of a platform to offer that in BASIC.

Recently I learned you can put machine code in QBASIC programs. Still has tricks up its sleeve, all these years later!

I finished Aaaaanimaniacs And the game was a bit crap. Changing characters was a faff And the levels were all naff And that's the end of that. Those are the facts.

We have a monthly one in Brisbane Australia, it's only usually a dozen-ish people, but I've got to see some really rare and cool stuff over the years, and met some fantastic people. Big shoutouts to small local events!

Trojan:Win32/Sabsik.FL.A!ml ... is a moniker for code determined by heuristics algorithm to be high-risk. The "!ml" suffix means "machine learning". This approach is good, but the naming spooks people for no good reason. What's the developer to say except "Trust me!" ??? Full detail at link in OP

I read this post on fsxNet and thought it's worth sharing. pastebin.com/PeC6VKpj A hobbyist developer published an ANSI art program, and one person said Defender flagged it as a virus called "Trojan:Win32/Sabsik.FL.A!ml" Thing is, THIS ISN'T A VIRUS. 1/2

Midjourney and DALL-E would be bad at generating source code, too.

RetroSwim @retroswim.net · 08/06/2026
That kind of makes sense though? They're language models, while creating an image, even from ASCII characters, is a spatial/visual task.

The lack of introspection is mind blowing. "I upload raw, unedited, casual gameplay footage to a website already saturated with it, but it's other people's fault I'm not succeeding!" Not *desiring* credit, that's natural, but feeling actual resentment that there's no prize for simply showing up.

I don't care If 1 get flak with this but I'II be honest
Even If It's a few seconds. I would like to be asked
first for permission If my footage Is used than
just outright stolen without permission, It's one
main reason I have the baked In watermark and
sometimes even that does not stop someone
outright stealing footage from my longplay and
not which I can't really do anything about and It
does more than grind my gears especially when
my vids are non-profit by mv own choice iust sa
some POS can continue to rise off my work while
I'm stuck at the bottom. It's actually one of the
reasons I'm about to quit making longplay videos
of obscure qames or any game

Whatever implementation of the ZIP algorithm Windows uses isn't great, I know it doesn't perform well, and have definitely also had it choke on files that other tools had no problem with. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft's implementation has been unchanged since it was added in 2000.

Generated by this, or real ad from Australia? (Obviously the former, but wow, it's so authentic!! Nice work!)
Burger King ad generated by this thread's utility, but it says Hungry Jacks, which is what Burger King is called in Australia. There's a logo with a whopper burger beside it, and the text saying "the burgers are better".

To clarify, there are cool weapons, armour sets, runes, blood gems, and other items that can only got from Chalice Dungeons, but definitely nothing you need to beat the game.
110
RetroSwim @retroswim.net · 05/05/2026
Chalice Dungeons are entirely optional. Similar to maps in Diablo, they're pseudo-random dungeons for you to grind out for souls, materials and runes. You can specify the RNG seed tho, and people have discovered easy-mode seeds for quick low-risk farming.

Fellow DOS nerds, looking for some EMM386 insight! I have a particular computer, a dual MMX system on the Intel HX chipset, and it has wild instability when running games using DOS extenders, either crashes or segfaults at startup. UNLESS, I load EMM386. Even with NOEMS is fine. Any ideas?

To wit: The Japanese Game Preservation Society got criticism when they reached out for funding last year. Mainly around limited accessibility. They are heavily constrained by Japanese IP law. "Piracy does it better" was a recurring trope from the peanut gallery. What are your thoughts there?

These all seem like logical, prudent points. To us, I think the reason to meticulously preserve this material is self-evident, but some people out there take the view that such archives need not exist if they don't offer free, unfettered access to their contents. Cont'd..

Obtained. The label reading "Space Quest Historian" is under the secondhand store's plastic wrap, so presumably was on there from the factory? In any case, this one is not still sealed. The sleeve with the aforementioned label is slit along one edge. Still, it's in VERY nice condition!
