bugs with models are really fun, like, something was a bit off in one of my chat templates so the model started wondering if it was dealing with prompt injection😅

Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.
From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

The title of the article, which I link below, is "How Bear 89 earned the name Backpack"

I'm dumping all the lfm classifier training I did in July & August and moving to the system1/system2 approach for agent safety checks. system2 trains in seconds so system1 adapts along the way, kinda ideal for automode

building a megakernel was fun! it's about the same speed as llama.cpp for tokens, while the system 1 reads are about 2x faster, landing around 150ms all that said I should probably whip this whole thing into a shape I can upstream into llama.cpp and vllm 🤔

I absolutely loved Everybody’s Perfect by @bluejo.eurosky.social. A gentle, inventive, and protean fantasy told relay-race style across a fantastical, otherworldly Venice-like city. Full of perfectly formed characters and some miraculous world(s)building.
The cover of Everybody’s Perfect by Jo Walton. A cloaked and masked figure is surrounded by several Venetian carnivale masks. In the background, dark mists swirl across a bridge arching over a canal.

having the strix halo and dgx spark next side by side, they're alike in specs but very different experiences as development machines. the strix halo is like, here's a box of premium parts that can probably do some ai shit, and the dgx is like, your models will just work as long as you like ubuntu

my claudes have set up a locking protocol so they don't swamp the strix halo machine all day again. having 3-4 agents working on different system-1 ideas in parallel is even more compute & memory hungry than rust compiles and those were going too

In 1997, James Reason published 'Managing Organizational Accidents'. It was influential in popularizing his concepts around the Swiss Cheese model, his specific brand/recipe of safety (and just) culture, etc. and discussed ever since. But it also has this line in it just throwing incredible shade:
Text from a book:

For example, some individuals are considerably more absentminded than others. If the person in question has a previous history of unsafe acts, it does not necessarily bear upon the culpability of the error committed on this particular occasion, but it does indicate the necessity for corrective training or even career counselling along the lines of 'Don't you think you would be doing everyone a favour if you considered taking on some other job within the company?'. This is the way that management acquires some of its most distinguished members. Absentmindedness has nothing whatsoever to do with ability or intelligence, but it is not a particularly helpful trait in a pilot or control room operator.
[...]

"This is the way management acquires some of its most distinguished members" is manually highlighted and a '!!' is in the margin.

Generally speaking collective problem solving is a defining activity of humanity, and while all things have their individual differences, it's pretty unlikely that this capacity is constrained to a miniscule fraction of the population.

interesting thing with the lil 8b model I'm pressing into system1 service: it seems to perform best if the prompts use mostly words that encode as 1 token rather than being broken up. needs more testing to be sure, but interesting

Image 1: A comic book panel. Emma Frost stands behind and speaks to Miss Piggy.

Emma Frost: Darling. I'm a telepath. May I read your midn to ascertain if you're telling the truth?

Miss Piggy: But of *course*, darling. I am an open book, a tell-all memoir.Image 2: A continuation of the same comic. Emma Frost's eyes glow white and her mouth is agape.

Emma Frost: My god...

Behind her, a kaleidoscope of images of Miss Piggy in various scenes and forms, including dramatic action kick wearing spandex, wearing expensive-looking clothing, and wearing a tiara and being carried by shirtless men in a palanquin. There is a multi-colored star motif and several sparkle effects on the image.Image 3: two horizontal comic panels.

Top panel: Wolverine touches Emma Frost's shoulder from behind.

Wolverine: Frost? She legit?
Emma Frost: She's... She's...

Bottom panel: a closeup of half of Emma Frost's face, eyes and mouth still wide with wonder.

Emma Frost: "...She's *everything*. And I would *die* for her.

really glad I didn't go after the one startup idea around automode classifiers. the product space is basically destroyed by Jev & the Jeffs in the last week. bright side is I'm pretty close to being able to release a nice LFM-based Jeff that was 75% done, and will be easy/fast on AMD/rocm
