Crazy in that, these days, it’s EXTREMELY easy to not hear about something that is massively popular, but hell, even in 1991 I sold a boatload of “Ice Ice Baby” and “Friends in Low Places” in my mall records store job before I ever heard them.

This admin has spent years going after science. It proposed the largest cut in NASA’s history, about a quarter of the agency and half of its science programs. But last month, a groundbreaking telescope left the launch pad anyway. And the story of how it got there is our good news this Sunday.

Most Republicans know they’ve been aiding and abetting something abhorrent, and so their whininess and special pleas are mostly just part of the same bad faith act. But I do think they siloed themselves enough to lose track of the intensity of it, and must find this experience really disorienting.

I came up with some more inane bullshit for everyone to argue about!
(September 23, 2026 at 10:44am)
Fake opinions to argue over…
- Never turn left on a first date.
- Every kindergarten student should have an unpaid internship.
- The periodic table is too sexual.
- Bigfoot should be allowed to vote.
- Having a dream is the same as reading a book.
- You can wear a crop top to a funeral if the deceased person was hot when they died.

Okay so @defector.com has had an odd glitch since the site redesign a couple of weeks back where the wrong photo and headline are often put together on the main page and I was going to ask them about fixing it but this just happened and as far as I'm concerned they have to leave it as is.
Screenshot for a Defector podcast episode with the headline "Consider the Emotional Lives of Scallops" only the accompanying photo is a white gormless stubbled red-headed UK singer of recent notoriety giving a flat smile to the camera while wearing a washed out peach top as beige as he is against a flat background. So, actually, probably a scallop anyway.

It's pretty similar to how @anneapplebaum.wsocial.eu has described how autocracies use propaganda more to exhaust people than to convince them the government is right. "Well I don't know who to believe, so I'm not going to spend the mental energy thinking about this."

At the pool my family goes to, there's a small memorial to a family of four that was on American Air Flight 77. They were on their way to an exciting year in Australia for an academic sabbatical with their two young daughters. I think of them on every 9/11 now.

We need at some point to talk about American Evangelicalism as a heretical movement. We should not indulge the delusion of a bunch or nuts who cherry-pick the Bible to rationalize otherwise indefensible 21st century bigotries that they are representatives of a global faith.

Trump officials strip military language criticizing Confederate memorial
A new sign at Arlington National Cemetery omits wording that said the 32-foot bronze statue “mythologized” the Confederacy and gave “sanitized” depictions of slavery.
