In high school one of my choirs sang “The Boy From New York City.” The sheet music had an absolutely hilarious typo, so obvi us normally “good” kids loved pissing off the director by singing “his dueling scar/ and brand new ear” since after all, that’s what was written

I've eaten rice the way Zohran Mamdani does. A friend made me a meal years ago & showed me that way of eating rice. I thought it was cool.
Teachers in NYC teach students to be kind & respectful toward other students' cultures. It's one of our learning standards to help children feel proud of who they are.
It's disappointing that some adults can't model the same decency & kindness that students in NYC show every day.
They would rather model something none of our religions teach us - racism and attacking our neighbors instead of loving them.

As a kid I LOVED watching the popcorn come out of this. It was like the scene in the animated 101 Dalmatians when the puppies all run down the hill. 1 or 2 early stragglers, then BAM- a hundred popcorn pieces tumbling into the big brown glass bowl all at once

Iirc from studying Classics a decade ago, in Ancient Rome the youngest you could marry off a girl and not get significant side eye was 15/16. 20 or so was more common. The age gap was often just a couple years- enough for a man to get a little money first

I have managed to grow enough of 1 crop to fulfill our needs twice. The first was kale (in soil that probably had lead dust,) and the second is this year’s parsnip crop (we eat parsnips a couple times a year and that’s it)

I went to a high school with a “wtf” level racist mascot. We convinced ourselves it was divorced of meaning. When I entered the real world I discovered a) that wasn’t true and b) I had divorced other bad things from meaning as well. Anyone with an iota of self awareness fixes that immediately

Some people are lucky. They can stay home and exclusively breast feed for as long as their baby needs. Staying home is expensive. Many of us can not. Pump parts need to be replaced due to wear. Storage costs money. Bottles cost money. Bottle nipples need replacing. Formula costs money
