Generally speaking I do need AI boosters to understand that I’ve lost my career and future plans entirely to AI-based cost cutting. so any time you’re talking about tech you have to understand people whose livelihoods were destroyed by a thing they didn’t choose to adopt they’re gonna be prickly lol

It's okay to be excited for new trainsets. Yes, these should be electric instead of bimode, yes Amtrak routes need a lot of work to be world class rail, yes we absolutely shouldn't consider this to be the final peak of American railroading BUT this is a major step over existing rollingstock.

Granted Waymo is still very expensive to operate because even though it doesn't carry a human driver or safety driver, there's still a lot of humans necessary to keep them running, but even putting that aspect aside, the promise that prices would drop once they cracked automation was always a lie.

I actually agree that ghost bikes shouldn't be installed on sidewalks. They should be installed on concrete islands with bollards in the center of the road so drivers actually have to see and think about them.

That's, that's not how crossing an air gap works. Please stop trying to scare people with a scenario involving transmitting a trillion parameter model across an air-gap with a channel that is less than 1 baud. Orders of magnitude less.

If you only ever do things by car it's easy to forget other people don't have the same patterns you do. Obviously some people do have to carry a week of groceries by bus (not too tough with a cart) but many people who ride busses often don't shop for a whole week at a time.
