Labor promises feel like wishes from a genie, where they don't tell you all the shit conditions that go along with the actual good thing that people want. Hope people remember this at election time and don't get distracted by their shiny new promises that they'll defoul after the election.

It just reads like threats from the AI companies rather than "warnings". Like, they write this stuff, they are perfectly capable of putting the brakes on and safeguards in place. But instead they are out trying to scare the public and politicians into doing what they want..

If only Australia had put some real effort into weaning our transport systems off fossil fuels. Not just better for the environment, but also all our pockets. My damn mortgage interest rate is tied to the price of fuel in this country!

Gotta love this placement on the @australia.theguardian.com front page. I guess I'll get to enjoy more high-30s days in early October if the government only takes their direction from the fossil fuel lobbyists. Lucky me!

Left one reads: Total fire ban for Sydney, with 37C temperatures and risk of bushfires from dry lightning.

Gross, I guess NSW Labor have decided to chase the One Nation vote with this rhetoric. It seems right-wing even for Minns. Plenty of opportunity to reskill coal workers into renewables, it's already happening in my hometown of Wollongong. But no, extend coal and lock us into further climate disaster
NSW premier says controversial mine expansion ‘hugely important’ for economy: ‘this is the right decision’

The NSW premier, Chris Minns, has welcomed the approval of the controversial Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) continuation project.

Yesterday the NSW Independent Planning Commission approved the proposal, the biggest coalmine project to ever go before it, allowing mining to continue until 2045. Climate groups have described the HVO project as a “carbon bomb”.

Asked about the decision on 2GB this morning, Minns said:

This is a hugely important decision for the New South Wales economy. It props up and is responsible for literally thousands of direct and indirect jobs … It also produces billions of dollars of royalties for the NSW government, which we put into schools and hospitals, as well as the renewable energy renovation of the state.

So, look, this is the right decision. The IPC has determined it. I think they’ve made the right call here, and it would give a lot of certainty to that businesses up there, but alongside that, a lot of workers that were sweating on this decision over a long period of time.

Yeah, after calmer inspection once I was no longer in the shower, it doesn't actually seem like a huntsman. Though it's quite a tight space for a cockroach, a spider seems more flexible to get in there. Not really any way to get it out, either :(
