I backed Knityak’s Kickstarter 9 years ago, and I was excited to see the site’s relaunch offering even more procedurally-generated knitted garments. Unfortunately she’s not crafting them individually anymore, but she’s offering a lot more designs including Mandelbrot fractals and Mac book ROMs. They look really cool. Some of them are completely unique and she’ll […]

I saw my eye specialist today who confirmed that my eye pressure remains in the safe zone, and they aren’t seeing any glaucoma progression or loss of vision. I don’t have to go back to see them for a year. Phew! Preventative medicine for the win. 😅

Folks, Episode 2 of “Jak nás vidí svět” is now online, and IT’S A DOOZY. Be sure to watch until the very end! SPOILERS BELOW…

My friend Sarah now works for Canva, and she invited me over for lunch today. It was my first time visiting the fancy Kippax Street office since I had lunch with Cam there in 2019, and my first time visiting the dear old Lacey Street office in the better part of ten years. Everything is […]

Today I discovered that Citymapper lets you change your user map dot to BLUEY CHARACTERS. 🤯 This delights me.

We’ve been inundated lately with AI-written press releases about AI-built tools and websites focused on beer and pubs. Who is asking for this?

Sydney Craft Week is coming soon! I’ve booked in for a symposium at UTS on “Fashion translated through Artisan Practice,” as well as a screenprinting workshop in Marrickville. I’m also going to a pub to learn how to crochet a vagina. (Seriously.) I was also strongly tempted by the workshops for glassblowing and leather journal […]

Apple sent me a request to do a survey about my MacBook Neo yesterday, which I did solely for the opportunity to tell them how I felt about their shitty “Apple Intelligence” AI.

We are past the halfway point in our jaunt through the FFCU! Last night was Furious 7, which sadly didn’t open with any of the fist-pumping stunts that the previous films were known for. (I guess I miss Justin Lin as a director?!) I gasped when I saw Kurt Russell’s name in the credits though, […]

The Editorial Board demands that Cornell stops protecting the alleged Chi Phi rapists through the University's opaque sexual assault policies.

Using kimchi that we made ourselves! This is next level delicious.

I keep forgetting to log these, but we have been sticking to the plan! 💪 Time: 64min

Clearing out the browser tabs… Rare Moomin mug sells for €46k – Holy moly. Thankfully none of ours are especially rare or valuable, or I’d feel scared to use them. Sagrada Família LEGO – Twelve thousand pieces! I was prepared to scoff until I saw that they’ve reproduced the interior too, complete with the stained […]

Our fifth and final week saw us experimenting with image transfer and Chine-collé. First I used some of last week’s drypoint prints to transfer some toner-printed images. We rubbed eucalyptus oil on the back, and then either ran it through the press or rubbed with a pencil to transfer the printing. I did one of each, […]

I wrapped my bike in battery-powered LEDs and joined hundreds of cyclists on a night ride through the city. We cut it a bit short due to inclement weather, but that was a lot of fun! Time: 71min / Distance: 12.68km

Did somebody say Bike Rave? 😆

Last night my friend Meredith accompanied me to the State Library for another of their special 200th anniversary events. This one was devoted to Harriet and Helena Scott, two of Australia’s best natural history illustrators. I knew that the Haydn Ensemble would be playing, but other than that I really didn’t know what to expect. […]

The City of Sydney periodically runs bicycle maintenance classes, and I decided I needed a refresher as it’s been 14 years since I last did it. Hilariously the instructor was Carlos, the exact same guy as last time! We had a good laugh, and he apologised that the content was pretty much unchanged too. 😂 One […]

Guy Who Sucks At Being A Person Sees Huge Potential In AI – HA! Love this. 👿🔥 There are some local datacentres we should absolutely support – Of course the library is #1. 👼🩷

My first ever visit to La Perouse. Got my 6th stamp!Time: 111min / Distance: 26.62km

Sydney gloriousness levels are very high today. ☀️❤️

Today I had my first day of volunteering with Habitat for Humanity Australia. We spent the day painting, gardening, and tidying up Phoebe House, a residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program for mothers, some of whom have their babies living with them. I’m proud of what we managed to do. I was the first volunteer […]

I was back at the PACT Theatre tonight for my last scheduled Fringe volunteering session. Both shows were basically sold out, and it was fun to see so many folks there excited to see some art. The first show was GIRLS GONE WILD, in which five women (archetypes) attempt to embrace wellness and toxic positivity […]

For several years now I have coveted the Bonne Maman Advent Calendar. It’s two dozen little jars of jams and spreads, all different. How cute is that? I never manage to order one before they sell out though. This year I actually signed up for the waiting list and put the drop date in my […]

Wow, Persodex looks like exactly the lightweight personal CRM I wanted ten years ago when I was working for YOW. I tried out several of the commercial options back then and eventually cobbled together my own automation using a Linkedin scraper on top of Contacts+. It was so handy to be able to keep notes […]

It seems like every six months I read another article or see a talk about the factors that make life enjoyable and worth living. There was “structure, purpose, and identity,” as well as “active, contributing, and connected.” Recently I saw this book excerpt that talked about surveys of thousands of people around the globe “to […]

My turn to cook tonight: Red Curry Chicken Fingers with Nagi’s Broccoli Pearl Crunch Salad. I can never get the chicken to turn out as crispy as the recipe, but it’s still tasty.

Every autumn (Northern Hemisphere) my friend Kel reposts “It’s Decorative Gourd Season, Motherfuckers” to Facebook, and every year I laugh. This year I also appreciated John Scalzi’s inspired take on Bluesky, as reposted to his blog.

Last night we watched Fast & Furious 6, which was entertaining but felt a bit dumber than the previous film. Everyone lost 50 competence points between movies, it seems. Instead of a clear genre, it just felt like a big generic action movie. It also centers on Letty, a character that I did not particularly warm […]

Asparagus is in season, so you know what that means! (This was Rodd’s best ever homemade Hollandaise.)

Most of the buildings for the upcoming Sydney Open have been released, and there’s still plenty of time to get your tickets for the event on November 1. I’ll be managing the volunteer team at—where else?!—the State Library. This is a great way to explore parts of our city that normally aren’t open to the […]

Rodd and I have been planning a trip to NZ for some time now. The problem is that I’ve been collecting sites on a “List,” while he’s been saving them on a “Map.” When I look at his shared Map in Google Maps (by going to Saved->Maps), I can see my List items overlaid on […]

Last night I headed to a very special performance in honor of the State Library’s 200th anniversary. William Barton is a composer and yidaki master, and his work Earth Flow honours “the living systems of memory and interconnected knowledge.” Together with an ensemble of musicians, performers (including Jack Thompson!), and the Sydney Street Choir, he […]

Earlier this year Rodd saw a FB post recruiting folks for a Czech TV show that films in Sydney. It’s called “Jak nás vidí svět,” which means “How the world sees us.” They film it at Tommy’s Beer Cafe in Glebe, and the idea is to give Czech food to non-Czech people and film their […]

Week 4 found us exploring drypoint, a printing method where you scratch a design into a plate, cover it with ink, and then wipe the ink off the flat bits. We first did a small sample using a bit of cut-up tetrapack from a carton of soy milk. I based my drawing off a silver […]

I’ve never been to a concert in a reading room before! William Barton and friends will be performing his new work Earth Flow tonight at the State Library of NSW.

Woohoo! Still not sure what the heck in the macOS 27 update caused my launchd job to fail, but we managed to delete it and create a new one today using this launchd-ui GUI for managing launchd agents and daemons. Yay! My computer is almost back to usable again!
