Gross, I guess NSW Labor have decided to chase the One Nation vote with this rhetoric. It seems right-wing even for Minns. Plenty of opportunity to reskill coal workers into renewables, it's already happening in my hometown of Wollongong. But no, extend coal and lock us into further climate disaster
NSW premier says controversial mine expansion ‘hugely important’ for economy: ‘this is the right decision’

The NSW premier, Chris Minns, has welcomed the approval of the controversial Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) continuation project.

Yesterday the NSW Independent Planning Commission approved the proposal, the biggest coalmine project to ever go before it, allowing mining to continue until 2045. Climate groups have described the HVO project as a “carbon bomb”.

Asked about the decision on 2GB this morning, Minns said:

This is a hugely important decision for the New South Wales economy. It props up and is responsible for literally thousands of direct and indirect jobs … It also produces billions of dollars of royalties for the NSW government, which we put into schools and hospitals, as well as the renewable energy renovation of the state.

So, look, this is the right decision. The IPC has determined it. I think they’ve made the right call here, and it would give a lot of certainty to that businesses up there, but alongside that, a lot of workers that were sweating on this decision over a long period of time.

Sorry, I know I've been banging on about the Greens a lot, but joining has honestly been one of the best things I've ever done. The world seems fucked and so much makes me mad. But then working with other people who care, and are fighting to make things better - it gives me hope!

Ugh, normally my ride to work is fine, but this morning I ended up in 2 shouting matches with drivers. One Uber who cut in front of me to park in the bike lane, and another driver who ran a red light and almost hit me as I was crossing with the green bike signal 🙃Apparently my fault according to her

That's cool. I'm sure all the BitReactor devs that were furloughed weeks before launch are gonna see some of that $50 million... right? Residuals are standard in other creative industries. If the people who actually made the game got their share of the profits, we wouldn't be in this mess.

Such a good thread. Additionally I'd make an educated guess that the "AI" bubble has expanded faster than you can realistically train new programmers at a company, meanwhile experienced programmers are under huge pressure to work faster than competitors. A recipe for dumb bugs and security flaws.

I'm in Utrecht for work at the moment, and in the last two days I've seen 3 teenagers riding the one Lime bike (one in the basket, one on the seat, and one standing on the back wheel case), and then last night an elderly lady with no arms riding a modified bike. I have missed this all so much.

A not-insubstantial part of why the games industry has *remained* in crisis mode since ~2023 is that all the investment has been siphoned off into chips and data centers that have almost zero chance of making back their money. But that doesn't matter, since someone still gets paid.

🤮 NSW Labor government is fast-tracking AI data centre builds. Not only is this a massive environmental step backwards for both energy & water, but locks us into the AI techbro investment bubble/ponzi scheme - what do we do when that crashes?
The NSW has committed to assessing new datacentre proposals within 75 days if they meet “world-class” energy, water and environmental standards, under a framework announced today.

The Minns government’s new datacentre guidelines follow the prime minister’s announcement last month of a national office of AI and regulatory framework for datacentres, amid growing community concern about land, water and power use by the rapidly expanding industry.

OK first of all 🤮 that Minns is endorsing Kyle Sandilands. Every time I think I dislike the premier he finds new ways to make me dislike him more Secondly, annoyed about ban on kids using e-bikes, if Sydney's hills are hard for adults to ascend by bike, they are worse for kids. Better 12 than 16 tho
The NSW premier, Chris Minns, says the government is examining introducing a minimum age of 12 to ride ebikes in the state, the strongest indication yet of where the government will land following an independent expert review.

Minns appeared this morning to cut a gold ribbon on the debut of Kyle Sandilands Live, the new digital radio show hosted by the former Kiis FM host after the cancellation of the Kyle and Jackie O Show in March.

The premier told Sandilands “I was worried for you” following the show’s cancellation, while the pair joked about running into each other recently at an ice-cream shop in the Blue Mountains. Sandilands said:

I thought you were a meth head because you had had the beanie on, you were you all rugged up.

But the conversation did turn towards policy, after Sandilands said he had bought his 11-year-old godson an ebike. The premier said the government is “examining an … age limit of 12” for ebikes.

“We haven’t finalised the details yet,” he said.

After a surge in injuries and an incident in which 40 or so e-bikes swarmed the Sydney Harbour Bridge in February, an expert review was asked to recommend an age limit of between 12 and 16, and was due to report back to the government in June.

Great, more incentives for people to drive instead of use public transport. This is just buying votes for the state election from Western Sydney to try and stop from losing them all to One Nation. And subsidising Transurban and the motor industry.
