🥗 British sea-weeds London: L. Reeve, 1867. [Source]
Illustration from 1867 titled "British sea-weeds," showing detailed, colored depictions of two types of green algae with broad, ruffled, and serrated fronds attached to small, root-like holdfasts. Each algae has a thick, dark central midrib supporting the textured leaf-like blades. The artwork includes two smaller, detailed insets of cellular structure, emphasizing scientific observation. The style is botanical and naturalistic, typical of 19th-century marine algae studies.
