The Democratic Party shouldn't be afraid to experiment, and the DSA is happy to try new things. That's good, that's something it should embrace.

I also want to see a Democratic Party that is willing to embrace change, because it’s well positioned to. Justice Louis Brandeis once said that “a single courageous State may, if its citizens choose, serve as a laboratory; and try novel social and economic experiments without risk to the rest of the country,” endorsing the idea that a federal system allows for experimentation inside of the larger system. I don’t see why that shouldn’t apply to the Democratic Party. We are a vast country with many different states and people, and the DSA’s electoral successes are a great experiment. If that experiment isn’t successful, a new challenger can rise and the experiment begins again, and we learn from it. Beyond that, New York City is different from Virginia or New Mexico, and it should have different representation. We aren’t a monolith like the GOP, the Democratic Party is a big tent, extending far enough to cover people who would scoff at being called Democrats, and having new challenges arise and adapting to those challenges can and should make it stronger.
