Took a (very) rainy walk through the Loop tonight. I was absolutely soaked, but my camera stayed dry enough.

The pavement in Chicago is wet from a day-long rain. Street and traffic lights reflect on the stored in vivid colors. In the foreground, a person with an umbrella is an out-of-focus silhouette

Calder's Flaming - an orange, abstract metal sculpture in Chicago stands in a wet, reflective plaza. The sculpture is reflected in the rain coating the plaza's stone pavers in the evening with buildings in the background

**Lights Out Alert Sunday & Monday Nights** Birdcast is estimating 300-400 million birds will be in flight.

From meteorologist Eric Snitil

**Lights Out Alert Sunday & Monday Nights**

"Heads up birders, I would not be surprised if the biggest bird migration night of the year happens over the next 2 nights. Birdcast is estimating 300-400 million birds will be in flight. That is a lot, but the pattern could not be better for migratory birds. A massive area of high pressure will turn the low level winds from the northeast to the southwest across most of the US. The last time we had anything similar to this in the fall was early October last year when a record 1.25 billion birds were in flight. I doubt we get to that level, but I suspect the number will top 500 million especially Monday night which looks to be the bigger of the two nights. You can help by turning off those outdoor lights on big migration nights, and the next 2 nights is about as big as it gets."

did bluesky hear about Miss Teen Indiana’s Garfield costume

A young woman in a Garfield inspired outfit with a Garfield headdress

The young woman from the first photo is holding a lasagna that says “lasagna my love language”

missinteenusa Tonight, Indiana is going Garfield!
My state costume celebrates one of Indiana's most iconic creations-Garfield, created by fellow Hoosier Jim Davis.
Born in Marion and raised in Fairmount, Davis turned an orange cat with a big personality into a character recognized and loved around the world.
But this costume represents more than a famous Hoosier.
The hand-painted comic panels on my skirt share messages inspired by my initiative, Captivating Confidence:
"Our differences are what make us beautiful."
"If we don't have love, we have nothing."
"Outer beauty attracts, but inner beauty captivates."
To me, true confidence is found in embracing what makes each of us different and recognizing that our greatest beauty comes from within. I am so excited to bring a little Hoosier humor, creativity and confidence to the Miss Teen USA stage tonight!
This one-of-a-kind costume was inspired by my vision and brought to life by Indianapolis-based costume designer, Jess West. @jesswestcostumes

One of my favorite midcentury buildings in Chicagoland is this unusual storefront + house in Evergreen Park, constructed in the early '60s as a personal project of real estate developer Wayne Bekta. His wife's flower shop faced 95th Street, with the family home attached behind it as one structure.

A photo of a big midcentury building clad in cream-colored brick and gray stone bricks. Facing a commercial street is a big angular storefront with floor to ceiling glass windows and business signage that says "Evergreen Door & Window", while facing a side street the angled roofline reaches its lowest point and then rises back up along the roofline of a split-level '60s ranch house.

A photo of the commercial side of the structure, featuring neon signs for windows, doors, awnings, and siding and various displays visible through two story tall windows.

A photo of the side of the building shows a clear transition from the commercial to residential portion of the structure, both the same height but the house featuring an actual upper floor and move private windows than the storefront. The garage is open, and an old red truck sits inside the opening.

Most of the Sora feedings seem to happen deep in the cover of the reeds. But this time, mom, I think, decided to distribute the snacks out in the open! #Birds 🪶

An adult Sora, I think the female, feeds one of her chicks while another chick impatiently waits its turn! The chicks are all black and very fuzzy, with a bit of red and orange on their beaks. The adult has a brilliant yellow beak and a black mask and stripe down its neck. Otherwise she’s mottled brown. All three are in front of densly packed reeds.

The draft of the Declaration was revised first by Adams and Franklin, and then by the full committee. A total of 47 alterations, including the insertion of three complete paragraphs, were made to the text before it was presented to Congress on June 28. After voting for independence on July 2, Congress continued to refine the document, making 39 additional revisions to the committee draft before its final adoption on the morning of July 4.

The draft shows the multiplicity of corrections, additions and deletions that were made at each step. Although most of the alterations are in Jefferson's handwriting (Jefferson later indicated which changes he believed were made by Adams and Franklin), he felt slighted by the way Congress rewrote the manuscript. In a consoling letter of July 21, 1776, the state's senior delegate, Richard Henry Lee, wrote to Jefferson that he wished that "the manuscript had not been mangled as it is." In an 1823 letter to Madison, Jefferson wrote that, at the time, "during the debate, I was sitting by Dr. Franklin and he observed that I was writhing a little under the acrimonious criticisms" of Congress. In fact, as Congress neared completion of the document by altering nearly all of his last paragraph, Jefferson could only write in the margin "a different phraseology inserted." Jefferson remained bitter about the changes made to the Declaration of Independence right up to his death. His autobiography was a major effort to set the record straight on its writing.
