they need that beef because you have to stack-throw them into the hot zone where they move a pyramid one tile over and turn most of the map into lava. and then your stoic beefmen wizards hold the line and keep the enemies from escaping the lava until it kills them all and you win

'The Play' is that you need about 6 characters who won't counter a melee attack. these are all casters and then i guess the thief for some reason. one of them needs to be flonne who's learned a real heal from her vassal (you did set that up right?)and they all need to be as thickbeef as you can make

managed to pop the achievement by actually doing it at my computer and being very careful and watching the achievement icon the whole time. feel like i did nothing different but whatever man we take those Ws (after like 5 hours training up a bunch of characters to execute The Play)

i will never be confident, is the problem lmao i should at least fuck around with it some more first, i've only had one attempt i think should pass and one that was theoretically valid but could just as easily be not. it's just an annoying hurdle for a game i am playing for bed-rotting purposes

i've successfully unlocked similar achievements before this so it's not completely broken. fastforwarding shouldn't affect achievements but i'm going to hope that's the problem because man i do not want to go fuck around troubleshooting a second emulator or something

made the disastrous choice of idly trying to 100% the retroachievements for disgaea. the set is lovingly made and so it's got a bunch of weird challenges in it. i'm having trouble getting a 'must do on your first time through the game + requires grinding' achievement to trigger and i'm gonna die
