The video game industry has always been volatile (I published Press Reset in 2021!) but the skeleton key to understanding the current state of things is this: Big games now cost 10x to make what they did 15 years ago but most do not generate even close to 10x the revenue. Simple as that

Lol, I have seen people asking achievements for Benefitship, which is a linear 1,5 hour vn, even after the dev has said that it wouldn't make any sense. Steam forums are a hellscape.

The Mermaid Mask launched 1 month ago and it's gone so much better than we dreamed! Over 2,300 Steam reviews - so many of them glowing - and 99% positive, we couldn't have asked for a better player response. And sales-wise, TMM almost did as well as Crow Country in its first month.
