This is such a scoop. For many reasons, including: Trump had made a couple of comments about Omar in the first term, but neither she nor Somali Americans were a Trump obsession at that time. (But Somalis _were_ a Miller obsession.) www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

Trump officials scrutinized Omar in 2019. They didn’t find citizenship issues.
The earlier review of Omar’s immigration records looked at many of the same issues being investigated now.

My family and I were worshipping at our Hindu temple in Aurora on Sunday when a white supremacist attempted a mass shooting targeting Indian Americans. I'm grateful to those who prevented a tragedy, but we must all come together to confront the hatred that put so many innocent lives at risk.

The way JD Vance says this, he is acting as if Abdul El-Sayed is an immigrant who should "show a little gratitude to the country that gave him everything." Once again, it should be pointed out that El-Sayed was born and raised in Michigan.

What if you see ICE at the polls? (Don't worry! Read on for the plan!) @indivisible.org roped me in to design and illustrate a new zine! Check it out in this 🧵 - and visit linktr.ee/wewillvote to sign up for the Election Protection Program and find all the resources you need!
Page 1: text reads "WHAT IF YOU SEE ICE AT THE POLLS? (Don't worry! Read on for the plan!)"

Image shows pen and ink drawings of an ICE agent peeking around one side of the word ICE and a determined looking person holding up a cell phone as if to record peering around the other side.

Thanks for bringing them to my attention! This sounds like a great program. However, there's little evidence that swimming has recently spread to any wider population than in the past. On the contrary, many public pools have closed, and less than a quarter of today's poor children learn to swim.

This is partly because for many years they did have, effectively, slave labor in the form of intelligent, ambitious women barred from better-paying work. These women were forced into teaching or nursing, and so schools got high quality teachers at relatively low wages.

Even on a practical level, it's hard to imagine any company with the bandwidth to support that size audience wanting to violate their own TOS by showing it, or volunteer to take the risk that the system would crash and make them look bad. Especially given that the election will be over by then.

Today I found out that Umberto Eco crafted a version of this meme in the 1980s…
Beware the
alibi of photocopies ! Photocopies are indis-
pensable instruments. They allow you to keep with you a text you have already read in the library, and to take home a text you have not read yet. But a set of photocopies can become an alibi. A student makes hundreds of pages of photocopies and takes them home, and the manual labor he exercises in doing so gives him the impression that he possesses the work. Owning the photocopies exempts the student from actually reading them. This sort of vertigo of accumulation, a neocapitalism of information, happens to many. Defend yourself from this trap: as soon as you have the photocopy, read it and annotate it immediately. If you are not in a great hurry, do not photocopy something new before you own (that is, before you have read and annotated) the previous set of photocopies. There are many things that I do not know because I photocopied a text and then relaxed as if I had read it.

Fundamentally, teaching humans is activity that requires high amounts of human labor per student and that is a real problem for people who are annoyed at the concept of paying for human labor.

Right, so your 'serious' is on a different scale from the apocalypse many Y2K believers were predicting, and any problems caused by AI are likely to be on your scale of 'serious' and not on the apocalyptic level being predicted now.

All this woo woo around AI reminds me a lot of the woo woo around Y2K, and a lot of people made a lot of money on that, too, but it turned out to be NBD. (yes that was partly because some programmers worked hard to prevent it, but not everyone worked so hard, and yet nobody had serious problems.)
