Nah, there won’t be. Because they’ll never actually build this, let alone sell it.

I think Democrats should keep their accounts, but delete all prior tweets, and start periodically tweeting links (without details) to other platforms where they’re posting actual content. At which point Elon will likely start banning Democratic Party accounts and further ruin his image.

ok but have u heard my proposal
What if, in some kind of cosmic mind-blowing coincidence, it turned out that LLMs are not conscious, but Furbies ARE conscious and were conscious all along

It just RANDOMLY turns out that the Texas Instruments SN69438P chip, used in the Furby's pseudo-"speech synthesis", houses a soul. Nobody noticed until now because nobody looked

once again reminded how the designer of the furby sincerely believes they are alive radiolab.org/podcast/more...
CALEB CHUNG: Well, I have to ask you, when is something alive? Furby can remember these events, they affect what he does going forward, and it changes his personality over time. He has all the attributes of fear or of happiness, and those are things that add up and change and change his behavior and how he interacts with the world. So how is that different than us?

JAD: Wait a second, though. Are you really gonna go all the way there?

CALEB CHUNG: Absolutely.

JAD: This is a toy with servo motors and things that move its eyelids and a hundred words.

CALEB CHUNG: So you're saying that life is a level of complexity. If something is alive, it's just more complex.

JAD: I think I'm saying that life is driven by the need to be alive, and by these base primal animal feelings like pain and suffering.

CALEB CHUNG: I can code that. I can code that.

Look at the shabby state and increasingly authoritarian trajectory of the country and ask yourself if we can endure 2 more years of a lawless Trump administration wreaking havoc with no check from Congress, then vote accordingly. This is not the time for a protest vote or purity politics.

I've replace the rifle with a plank of wood labelled "AI Slop"

I think it’s being interpreted uncharitably because of Trump’s past actions. E.g. he’s previously withheld disaster relief funds to California because Californians didn’t vote for him. The idea that he’d allow California cities to be attacked isn’t just plausible, it reads like a veiled threat.

I don’t think most people doubt that machine consciousness is *theoretically possible,* they doubt whether LLMs are a viable route to it. Blurring that distinction doesn’t seem helpful.

Yeah, all of those regulations seem to exist to either a.) preserve journalistic neutrality, or b.) avoid financial conflicts of interest. Which is totally reasonable! But none of that is relevant to the case of an actress on a dance show, wearing a slogan of support for a marginalized group.

When I was a 5th grader, I was listening to news, writing essays about current events, and so on. There was a lot I didn’t understand, but some adults helped me learn to think critically—including some who didn’t actually share my views, but who thought it important I learn how to think for myself.
