We don’t want flying cars or folding iPhones or data centers. We want an end to mass shootings, healthcare, free and fair elections, and our planet and people to be cared for.

Unfortunately, it’s too late in the journey at that point. We have to build relationships so that we are trusted to answer questions while they are still deciding. And that’s where medicine failed. The systems stripped away time and undercut trust. It abdicated that role.

Do you want to know how popular school vouchers are? They have never won on a ballot. Not once. In any state. Ever. The only way states are able pass a school voucher scheme is behind closed doors. Legislatively. The people would never approve their tax dollars going to private religious schools.

We are avoiding buying most fresh produce at this time and all bagged, prepared salads & spinach. This is going to cause financial harm to grocers & farmers alike. When you can’t trust the food, you won’t buy it. This is another break in the system that was created by this corrupt regime.

Taylor Swift has $2 billion dollars. If I compare her $26 million gifts with my life’s savings, then she gave $400. Sorry. I’m just not impressed. Eat the rich.

Buying cherries is fun because you'll see a display of bags of cherries with a sign saying, like, "SAVE $5 PER LB!" and you'll think, "Oh, on sale," and grab a modestly sized bag and then at checkout you'll learn that you've just paid $983.44 for a fucking bag of cherries.

In regard to the LAPD murdering a homeowner’s dog, white people (including myself) should keep this energy when any black person is killed by the police. The police have killed 553 this year SO FAR. Black people are 2.8x times more likely to be killed by the police than white people.

Interesting. Here, that’s still considered good food. Our Amish stores sell it. You can judge, but perhaps some of that is cultural.

when we mourn le guin, we mourn one of our greatest writers & thinkers. but we also mourn one of our all-time greatest haters
All you do is take all the sex out, and use little short words, and little dumb ideas, and don't be too scary, and be sure there's a happy ending. Right? Nothing to it. Write down. Right on.

If you do all that, you might even write Jonathan Livingston Seagull and make twenty billion dollars and have every adult in America reading your book.

But you won't have every kid in America reading your book. They will look at it, and they will see straight through it, with their clear, cold, beady little eyes, and they will put it down, and they will go away. Kids will devour vast amounts of garbage (and it is good for them) but they are not like adults: they have not yet learned to eat plastic.

Today, two (two!) men ran sub two-hour marathons for the first time in human history and the news is nowhere to be found on the ESPN or Sports Illustrated home pages. One of the greatest feats in sports history and it’s less important than the final round of the NFL Draft.

Is there someone dead in the lobby or is there someone in custody? Was the person armed or not? Did he make it into the ballroom or not? Usually there should be a pretty wide grace period on finding this out, but there are literally hundreds of reporters in the room and nobody knows shit.

I usually post this on Anzac Day, but my access to the internet will be limited tomorrow, so here it is today. WWI soldier and casualty Wilfred Owen's words are as relevant as ever this year (The old lie Dulce et Decorum est, Pro patria mori (How sweet and becoming it is to die for one's country))
Dulce et Decorum Est

By Wilfred Owen

Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs,
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots,
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of gas-shells dropping softly behind.

Gas! GAS! Quick, boys!—An ecstasy of fumbling
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time,
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And flound’ring like a man in fire or lime.—
Dim through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams, you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil’s sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,—
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.
