It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

Me: I can just play an audiobook from my phone.
My wife: But then it won't be in your voice.

Rape as a tool of political violence was the natural escalation point to allowing an adjudicated rapist to become President. I think I'll just start shrieking at the top of my lungs at anyone who tells me I'm overreacting from this point forward. No words, just the feral sound of unbridled rage.

Yeah. I think it doesn't help that my Google switch happened when I was much younger than I am now. I lament that I've reached the (not quite geriatric but not far off) resistant to change stage that every one warns about as you get older. Knowing is half the battle? /GI Joe

After 16 years of GOP control, Democrats have a shot at winning a majority in the Wisconsin State Legislature. This would be a monumental shift, but it’s far from a given — especially in the Assembly.

IIRC, during the NHL mumps outbreak from years past, it turned out Canadians from a certain age group, didn't have the same number of mumps shots as their cohorts and that's how we ended up with photos of Sidney Crosby like this. (I recall talking about it with Biz on the bird site)

To add: is anyone surprised that Draganfly is operating in Saskatchewan and was mostly under the radar (pun kinda intended) until Large Man Abroad (yes, an American) did a YT video on it? I'm not. I want to know who knew and when but I'm fairly sure we'll never get any answers.

We can absolutely have a discussion about Amazon in Canada *and* legitimate Dragonfly complaints about how they treat their workforce but these two companies are not the same thing and honestly, I'm waiting to hear about someone harassing delivery drivers who already don't deserve it.

I'm all for more scrutiny into Draganfly (the drone company) but watching people kook out about "Dragonfly" (a subcontractor for Amazon delivery here in Saskatchewan. Likely other provinces but I can't say for sure) is making me weep for humanity. I can only hope that this is just spellcheck amok.

“A senior advisor to Bush” quoted in the NYT in 2004; the advisor’s initials are believed to be Karl Rove
From the 2004 New York Times story:

In the summer of 2002, after I had written an article in Esquire that the White House didn't like about Bush's former communications director, Karen Hughes, I had a meeting with a senior adviser to Bush. He expressed the White House's displeasure, and then he told me something that at the time I didn't fully comprehend -- but which I now believe gets to the very heart of the Bush presidency.
The aide said that guys like me were "in what we call the reality-based community," which he defined as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." I nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism. He cut me off. "That's not the way the world really works anymore," he continued. "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do."
