If anyone knows of any scholarship on The Princess Bride, I’d love to hear about it.

Students chose The Princess Bride (1987) for the fantasy film in our Fantasy & Speculative Fiction course. Surprised that they chose the oldest option. Also surprised to find that there’s very little academic writing on the film (unless I’m missing something).

I can’t access Google Scholar from my phone anymore. I always get this error. No other website gives me this issue, which makes me think the problem isn’t on my end. Anyone else dealt with this?

Meanwhile, countless current and former Canadian-trained academics languish in a broken job market caused by Liberal changes in the social transfer that led to massive provincial divestment from higher education, making Canada one of the least supportive wealthy countries when it comes to higher ed.

The Emma Frost x Miss Piggy comic has hit the internet and it's so, so, so much more magnificent than I ever could have hoped for
Emma Frost: "Emma Frost, darling. I'm a telepath. May I read your mind to ascertain if you're telling the truth?"

Miss Piggy: "But of course, darling I am an open book, a tell-all memoir."Emma Frost telepathically witnessing the entirety of Miss Piggy's life.Wolverine: "Frost? She legit?"
Emma Frost: "She's..She's... She's everything. And I would die for her."

I’ve seen a lot of online discourse that’s like “can MAGA outlive Trump? Can fascism succeed without a charismatic leader?”, and I realize that one thing this has really brought home to me is that people have wildly differing ideas of charisma.

Bleak reminder that we used to see hundreds of academic jobs in the humanities posted every year at this time. Now there are maybe 3 tenure-track English lit jobs in all of Canada. AI is only further devaluing the arts in ways that are decimating how we teach and secure future positions.
