Chris Longhurst @potatocubed.bsky.social · 3hIt's got limitations, but when it lands it *really* lands. A well-designed scenario makes a lot of difference. 110
Chris Longhurst @potatocubed.bsky.social · 10hOr maybe something like... designing games to be enjoyable as a primary driver is all well and good, but doing that requires a certain level of technical and artistic skill? Like, you can't wholly separate one from the other? I dunno, my thoughts are kind of unformed. 110
Chris Longhurst @potatocubed.bsky.social · 10hYeah, I've been turning the same thing about the art/trash distinction around in my head and it doesn't sit quite right. I think... whether a game (or film) is entertaining is dependent at least in part on the player (watcher), *but also* you can design games to be more (or less) enjoyable? 110

Chris Longhurst @potatocubed.bsky.social · 10hThere's an okay plugin for Notepad++ that does that, but I like Obsidian better for it. I use exactly zero of the advanced features. 120

Chris Longhurst @potatocubed.bsky.social · 11haround that time, giving us games like Apocalypse World in 2010 alongside the rising popularity of early Kickstarter, which really kicked off the current/latest golden age of RPGs. (Whether it's still going or has ended depends on who you ask.) 030
Chris Longhurst @potatocubed.bsky.social · 11hI probably contributed to at least some of them. Although with hindsight, the early 2000s were the d20 boom, when everything felt great but was built on a foundation of sand. But that gave us OSRIC in 2006 which was the start of your modern OSR movement, and the Forge was also doing... something... 150
Chris Longhurst @potatocubed.bsky.social · 11hIn 2012 indie tabletop RPGs were just entering the PbtA boom, and there were a few other influential indie titles floating around as well. We were right at the start of the Kickstarter wave too, so we got a whole load of cool and interesting stuff through the first half of the 2010s. 0130
Chris Longhurst @potatocubed.bsky.social · 12hThe original post was about a project I wanted to back, but their 'sign up to notify me' link is a link to their mailing list, not a project-go-live page. Which is annoying. With Backerkit it's just ridiculous. It feels like every time I glance at that site I end up on six more mailing lists. 020
Chris Longhurst @potatocubed.bsky.social · 12hI don't mind asking people to sign up to my mailing list. They know what they're doing, they know what they're getting, and I respect 'no'.
