Alligator Gar
Super ancient is the long-snouted fish that gulps the air and breathes the fresh water ways, outlasting the dinosaurs and the reptiles of water and air. Its kind, hard scales resist it to weathering time. Blessed is the fish olive drab and spotted strangely, long snouted, placid and calmly, swimming through the pyrocene, and it is an unknown future fish unseen,

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

Ainu woman, northern Japan. About 1920’s
Captured in quiet profile, a young Ainu woman stands as a regal embodiment of indigenous northern heritage in this studio portrait from the Taishō period (c. 1920s). She wears a ceremonial embroidered headband (matanpushi) bound across her forehead, its dark fabric embellished with white, couched-cord spiral motifs (moreu). Her adornments feature large brass hoop earrings (ninkari), a fitted fabric choker (rekutunpe) set with gleaming metal disks, and heavy, multi-stranded glass bead necklaces (tamasay) cascading over her chest. Her robe—likely a chikarpe or attush woven from elm bark fiber (ōhyō) or cotton—is dramatically framed by appliqué panels and couched thread forming protective, sharp thorn patterns (ayus) along the lapels.

The elaborate trade goods worn by the subject—particularly the tamasay beads sourced through historical exchange networks spanning Manchuria, Sakhalin, and mainland Japan (Wajin)—attest to the central role the Ainu historically held as dynamic maritime traders across the Sea of Okhotsk.

Aesthetically, the garment's sacred iconography functions as a physical and spiritual kekkai (protective threshold). In Ainu cosmology, the swirling moreu and sharp ayus motifs were carefully stitched around garment openings—necklines, cuffs, and hems—to ward off malignant spirits (wen kamuy) from entering the body. The rich, organic textures of hand-dyed thread, hammered metal, and polished glass embody a profound wabi-sabi sensibility, celebrating materials shaped by human hands and natural elements. Imbued with an unshakeable seijaku (tranquil dignity), her quiet profile stands as an enduring sanctuary of indigenous poise, transforming a photographic study into a timeless monument of identity and spiritual resilience.

Ancient Thrace—spanning modern Bulgaria, Romania, northeastern Greece, and European Turkey—was home to a brilliant tribal civilization (c. 1700 BCE–300 CE) renowned for elite gold and silver metalwork, fierce horse-warriors, rich musical traditions, and monumental burial mounds.
A greave, or knemis, was armor worn to protect the lower leg. This one was found in a rich Thracian burial mound in Bulgaria, alongside the grave goods of an Odrysian aristocrat.
Discovered near the villages of Zlatinitsa and Malomirovo, it shows the skill and wealth of Thracian craftsmen more than 2,300 years ago.

PLEASE HELP MY COUSINS WHO ARE IMMIGRANT WORKERS AND MEDICAL REFUGEES IN WEST ASIA! they are there not of their own volition, S is fighting stage IV cancer while also facing housing insecurity! MORE INFO:
some info:
This country does not allow mutual aid, so this will be our only opportunity to crowdfund. S’ brother, L, is returning home for a week to arrange paperwork for their mother. Once he leaves, I will remove this gofundme for S and her brother’s safety. Thank you so, so much.

Hello everyone, I am posting this on behalf of my three cousins, who are requesting mutual aid from the people online. They are three immigrant workers from the global south and medical refugees in a country in West Asia. Currently, my cousin S is fighting stage 4 breast cancer, and due to a deeply upsetting and misogynistic situation, she, alongside her brother and sister, all working class, were forced out of the home they were staying at.
My aunt recently had the opportunity to come and help S with her illness; Unfortunately, while there, she suffered two heart attacks. I am gathering funds to support S in three ways. First is to extend our aunt's visa as she is in no condition to return home. Second is to alleviate their food and housing insecurity, as their combined income is eaten away by S’ cancer treatments and rent. Third is to pad their emergency funds, as S’ chemotherapy is unavailable in our home country and only available in where they are currently immigrated to. Again, we are so grateful for all the help!!

Visa: 1,000 usd
Rent and food alleviation: 500 usd
Emergency funds: 200 usd, anything extra we receive.
