BBC management now cutting specialist journalists at the very regional BBC news services which garner the most viewers. Reporters in each cut from 8 to just 2. The masochism strategy in action. Genius. @michelepaduano.bsky.social: “If it’s going to go online it’s got to go online distinctively…”1/

The BBC does genuinely seem to be trying to save money where it can; they scrapped an undercover investigation where Amol Rajan went out clubbing with a view to exposing the easy access to poppers because they didn't want to pay for the Amol night rate

Unlike Simon Clarke, I was alive during the 1970s. A combination of low inequality, low crime and aspects of culture made 1976 one of the happiest years on record in the UK. The IMF bailout had zero impact. Lesson for Simon, happiness is not just a function of wealth.

A Prime Minister seeking to fix this country's pressing problems and the broken politics and stagnant consensus that underpins so much of it... A PM promising real improvements rather than unicorns sunlit uplands and an agenda of hate... Who knows? This could be catching.

Faragists rely on the narrative of "men on boats" creating a de facto Fifth Column in the UK to feed their agenda and to stir up hostility and to win votes and ultimately power. Suckers fall for it. Media boosts it. We've been here so many times before and you'd think we'd all wise up but hey ho

Liar. Small boat crossings peaked under Johnson in 2022 reaching 46,000 in 2022. In current year they are 18,565 and falling. Also prior to Boris Johnson's Brexit there were none.
It's a disaster, and it can all be traced to
Labour ideology. Burnham has no mandate
from the people. He has no real ideas, and
no plan,

The balaclava blackshirted thugs are a result of a decade of politicians, tabloids and the broadcast media telling racists they have "legitimate concerns." The normalisation of actual fascism rhetoric and action has led to this and is a far greater "legitimate concern" than any migrant on a boat.
