LA is HOT. But does it have to be this hot? Did you know shade from a single tree can drop temps by 20° or more? Yet working-class neighborhoods like South LA, East LA, and the Valley get the least tree coverage and bear the brunt of extreme heat. Let's finally cool things down for everyone.

Genuinely an insane paragraph from Sam Alito. “Voter fraud is real and scary and we have to stop it, so the fact that implementing Trump’s mail ballot rule will disenfranchise millions is legally irrelevant.” Brain melted. A right-wing podcaster in a robe. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...

Democrats need to drag every one of these spineless executives in front of congress when they retake it to have them explain in thorough detail why they acted like such feckless cowards.
In truth, I’m told that inside the John Ternus- and Tim Cook-led company, it would be difficult to find an employee who genuinely supports the name change. As one person familiar with the matter put it to me, “There is not a soul who is for it” and that “everyone considers it fucking nuts.” But Apple’s leadership team—as well as most of the employees inside the company—are “resigned” to these types of concessions under Trump 2.0 and know “that Trump will fuck with the company if the company doesn’t do what he wants,” the person said. Unlike in Trump 1.0, Silicon Valley employees are also less emboldened to speak out against leadership.

Spokespeople for Apple did not return requests for comment on Tuesday.

There are sub-amendment fixes that could yield substantial benefit and we should try several of them: 1) Wyoming rule the house 2) Admit DC & PR as states 3) Expand SCOTUS 4) Strip SCOTUS of jurisdictions (and/or modify its composition) It's a start. Amendments sure would help, though.

Trump doesn’t force people to do bad things. All he did was show people they could get away with being horrible if they really wanted to, and a lot of powerful people decided they didn’t need to pretend anymore. Especially those in influential positions who could push back but did not.

The Constitutional Crisis started in 2000. You've been living through it your entire adult life. The reason politics feels hopeless is by design — conservatives broke our democratic form of government to guarantee that the people cannot act against them and are continuing to break it.

The broader lesson is simple enough. Trump’s govt politicization is wholly dependent on the Supreme Court. They could stop it, but instead they are using the shadow docket to send a signal that it is open season on public employees. SCOTUS deserves the same institutional support it extend to others.
It is, in the end, not just Trump's politicization of the federal government; the Republican majority on the Supreme Court are co-owners of this project. John Roberts, who frets and worries about the court as institution, is a willing co-author on the attack on other institutions. The Court's complicity in the assault on public institutions gives them no justification to demand the protection of their own.
