Holy shit I just saw a post about a company that is making washers and dryers with knobs and buttons. No screens, no shitzillion settings, no annoying little electronic song when it’s done. Could it be? They’re realizing we don’t need our laundry machines to post to Twitter or send faxes?

Most rural areas have a ruling class. And they want cheap unfree workers & to pass their fiefdoms on tax-free forever. It ain't rocket science. The fact that we're scared to talk about THAT, ime, is what's costing us a lot of rural voters!

Title:
Who is Haunting The Library of Forbidden Tomes?

Image: five panels showing characters in a gothic library

22% - tormented souls, frozen between life and death (a ghost reading a book)
4% - dank, fetid horrors from the icy depths below (a black slug like creature with a single eyestalk reading a book)
15% - cold, lifeless bones possessed by a corrupt sorcery (a skeleton reading a book)
11% - frigid and malevolent ectoplasmic vapours (a shapeless apparition reading a book)
48% - regular readers happy to away from the heatwave

One of my favorite little fun facts is that janitors & sanitation workers have, in a very real sense, saved far more lives than any doctor. Sooooo much of modern health isn't due to the advancement of medicine, but due to sanitation

The dismantling of our public health infrastructure made this outbreak the worst of this century. But worker exploitation is at the root of the problem and not enough people are talking about that
In an American context, cyclosporiasis outbreaks are almost always caused by improper sanitation at farms or food processing facilities. Farmers around the world routinely refuse to provide adequate toilet or handwashing facilities for their workers if they think they can get away with it, to save money. When exploited raspberry or spinach pickers have no choice but to relieve themselves in a hole next to the field of crops, the potential consequences are obvious. A 2013 outbreak in Texas, for instance, was tied to contaminated cilantro.
Contaminated irrigation water is another potential culprit.

Another critter for the bestiary. Instead of being a straight up chimera, this one's based on the elephant-nose shrew and just modified to make the nose longer. Also, they're not usually purple ;)
a purple embroidered animal on a yellow background - the animal looks like some kind of rat, maybe, but with an elephant's trunk

Quote post with your yellow art! This one's tough for me, I don't use much yellow.
a quilt of tessellated geometric "leaf" shapes in colors that shade from green, through yellow to orange and red. one naturalistic three dimensional leaf is in the bottom left corner and a scattering of other leaves are sprouting butterflies (which are the same fabric as the underlying fabric so they're hard to see in a photo)

amazing that our own small creations connect us directly to the moment of our universe erupting out of nothing and the unfathomable power of existence itself and yet we look at our drawings or stories and are like 'this is bad.' bud it is not bad it is the leading edge of a billion years of beauty

hope to finish quilting this one this weekend so I can get on to the applique!
a quilt being fed through a sewing machine. the quilt is mostly shades of blue and green in a geometric design. there's a white person's right hand holding the quilt in place next to the foot of the sewing machine.
for the discerning sewist - yes, that's a piece of cardboard stuffed into one of the tension hooks to keep the thread from popping out! it's an older model brother machine and I hope to heck they've changed that part

it really is shocking how much self deprecation is seen as a cultural requirement for 'serious art.' 'real' artists are not allowed to exalt their work and must present it publicly as a sort of 'i dont think this is very good but maybe you will get around to it.' HECK THAT. love yourself

Another reject star for this quilt! It's cute, but I think I want something bigger for the last one. I save the rejects and extras and whenever possible sneak them into other quilts. This quilt has several repurposed blocks. I kind of like the way this quilt looks upside down! It's giving me ideas
An unfinished quilt laying upside-down on a green cutting mat. At the top of the image is a yellow and red stylized fire surrounded by green that gradually changes to blue as the quilt continues toward the front of the screen. Yellow "sparks" turn into "stars" moving up the quilt - down the image. In the foreground is a single star unattached to the quilt.

I hope that made sense! It's harder than I expected to describe something that's upside down in a picture.

Borders are done! Time to start the applique. I haven't done bats before, so I'm nervous about this.
A small quilt with a dark blue central area full of stars surrounded by bright "fall colors" borders. To the right is an assortment of brown fabrics under consideration for the bat appliques.
