Trying to imagine justifying a €20/month AI subscription when I'd just graduated. Not to mention that I started out as a technical resource to an experienced designer. I think if a designer wanted to implement designs for the web today, Claude would be more helpful than twenty something me.

What's more, it has been categorically shown that AI in the classroom widens the attainment gap. The bright students are better equipped to understand the limitations of systems and through trial and error figure out how to prompt it to better outcomes. Students already struggling are not helped.

Been thinking about this a lot and about how language encodes so many assumptions about language users being human, and how difficult that makes describing llm output. The computer didn't read, think, hallucinate, believe, misunderstand. But how else do you describe linguistic behavior like this...

This isn't a weird quirk of the system. This is a direct consequence of the degree of enfranchisement prstv gives, that your vote encodes to quite surprising degree of granularity what matters to you, and thus what matters to you is reflected in your elected representatives.

The most fascinating thing about the Irish PR:STV voting system (apart from its complexity), is that voter intent is encoded into the count. Not the reasoning itself, but what they intended for their vote to do, however irrational illogical it may appear. And it is genuinely thrilling.

Sadly, the thing that we need the metaphor to describe is constructing language, for obvious reasons we don't have grammar that meaningfully describes an entity that can use language that isn't worthy of empathy. It can't think, hallucinate, read, feel, decide but when I call it worm I feel bad

Can’t emphasise enough how vital other place was when we were starting out and struggling to be known. I’m grateful we’re now in a position where we aren’t looking to grow so it’s not as important.
