"JK Rowling is already a billionaire and everyone already knows about Harry Potter, what's the point of boycotting?" Nobody thinks boycotting will bankrupt her. We know she's gonna die rich. We're just asking you to show a shred of solidarity with trans folk. Absolute low bar bare minimum shit.

The best stats we have for SA are 1/3 women and 1/8 men. Some groups are higher risk (sex-workers, trans people, homeless people) but it works out roughly as 1/5 overall. That's a lot of people and I don't think that saying 'not everyone!' is helpful. It's like 'not all men'. We know that. Support.

I was a big fan of Roald Dahl's children's books, and at that point Dad didn't know he'd also written for adults too, so I was gifted a collection of short stories he'd found at a Church jumble sale...

All this is reminding me of the time I wrote a chapter for Taxline called 'Evadance and Avoision' and it went through two rounds of proofing before someone gently suggested changing the title...

There's a gap in the L1 list of title winners from when OM were stripped of the title (92-3?). Seems a reasonable solution, although this is obviously a much bigger set of gaps we're talking about...

The weird thing is that the HoL has a tradition of saying 'nope' to the government, which is arguably because they work off principles rather than the need to be re-elected. I'm not a fan in theory, but in practice (within the limits imposed), I'm OK with them. Completely agree on MPs, of course.

Email from Dad, back from Nephrology at IGH: "Consultant bright and cheerful again, if still puzzled as to what I was doing there. Ok, kidneys may be asymmetric, but function is fine and GP who found the former ‘interesting’ could have kept his curiosity to himself..." We're all wonky, basically.

...at ludicrously inflated prices. So Mancini saying this isn't his problem seems bizarre as...PAYE/income tax? NI? IR35? Sparkleglow? My Little Sodding Pony? He has to be up for charges too, right? Let's see how Brexit deals with this...

I was confused why some of the City charges related to understating costs, which seems counterintuitive if they were trying to understate income overall. But those 'costs' were amounts covered by income that should have come through the club (the Mancini contract - one of Ludlum's earlier works)...

After 40 hours IT HAS STOPPED RAINING. Thoughts with any business owners trying to get through to their insurance companies right now, they're going to spend a long time on hold. No reports of errant swans in the riverside bars this time, so that's a bonus.

Still raining, but it's calmed down a bit. Local paper is describing yesterday as "Un épisode méditerranéen", which doesn't really seem strong enough, as the river went up by over 4 metres...
Picture of a car half-submerged next to the river Lez in Montpellier after an absolutely ridiculous storm.

There are rules, though. After FFP came in I wrote a piece about how it wasn't really possible to value sponsorship properly ('arms-length' per schedule X) as clubs got bigger and comparisons got more limited. But City didn't even try that argument, they hid stuff. Agree on the Glazers, obvz.

I am going nowhere! Thing is, this started around 8pm yesterday and is forecast to go on all day, so the centre of town is basically cut off, all public transport is down, and there's waves of water coming down off the higher ground just to make it worse. Crossing fingers we keep electricity...

It's raining so hard I've just receiving an emergency alert on my phone - all the schools are closed and we've been told to stay indoors. I presume the civil defence siren went off at some point but we couldn't hear it over the thunder...

13 Monsters Good And True I think there are so many genuine monsters in the world that I am consoling myself by drawing little monsters who are good.
Drawing of 13 little 'monsters', rather cute little critters who wouldn't harm a fly, in fact they'd probably give it a bowl of milk and a tiny bed for the night.

Also, this wasn't the result of reporting - you could look up details of bans and they were mostly TV channels complaining about streaming links. There's no way someone at the Elysee is downloading the whole firehose every ten f-ing minutes to report them. This was *automated* based on local laws.

When I was on Twitter, I'd occasionally click on links to egregious content being cited in a thread to see that it was not available in my country (France; Germany has similar laws) so...they've always been able to do it, they just didn't care. Obvious, I know, but worth remembering.

My oven broke. Bought a new one. First delivery slot 'I wasn't there' (I was). Second slot, they show up, but the guy takes one look at the current wiring, says 'that's illegal' and tells me I need an electrician to make it safe before they can do the installation. I am considering a raw food diet.

You know a plumber's good when they get you to try out different heights/placements for the grab-rail before fixing it. Turning up on time is also a bonus.
