Me: I don't get it. I thought I was doing a lot better than I was a few years ago. I'm like 10 times more on top of things than I used to be. How does everything feel terrible now?

The Tiny Me in OSHA-approved Hi-Vis Gear Who lives in my brain and pulls all the levers: Boss, it's the fascism. You're completely gunked up with cortisol due to the fact that your entire daily life is now underscored with a haunting awareness of the rapid erosion of your rights, dignity, and any and all social safety nets, and you're also bearing witness to the most vulnerable people immediately being persecuted. This creates a natural stress response that basically means you're going to continue having memory and organizational problems, as well as emotional imbalances.

Me: BUT I HAVE A BULLET JOURNAL AND I MEDITATE NOW.

Tiny OSHA Me: BOSS, THE FASCISM.

created an infographic to explain why arguing the hypocrisy of fascist talking points only helps erode your point. don't fight bad faith with good faith. don't engage with their point. don't meet them where they are. they're killing people. eat their frame.
an image using sprites from Kirby's Adventure from the NES

two series of animations

1st series. Kirby standing still and then runs into a star and gets injured. it is captioned "negating a frame reinforces it"

2nd series: Kirby encounters a star, eats it, and then blasts it out as a fireball. it is captioned "eat their frame"

A girl can only pivot so much, hoss, and I hung up my pivotin' boots some time ago. I don't make videos even though that was supposedly the future of writing ten years ago — I mean, I guess I do, but they're little banjo practice videos for my friends, not expressions of a desperate careerist impulse. I use social media with the attention-crazed dopesickness of an addict, not the care and forethought of a professional, as any cursory read of my posts will confirm. I'm a writer by trade — a creative, as you might say — and here you are, running a business you don't even understand into the ground, deskilling my trade and experting a thank you when you explain how you're doing it. If I don't devalue myself the way you continually devalue me, you warn, I'll be left behind. Okay, says !! Quit making it my problem and go! The dust you leave me in will settle, and in the meantime, I will keep doing my work in much the way I've done it since I first became literate.

Just got back from the new Spider-Man movie! I enjoyed it overall. Felt like it really lived up to the potential promise of movies set in a cinematic universe and also several moments and characterizations felt like they followed nicely from the last film. With that said… (SPOILERS IN NEXT POST!)

It often feels like institutions of higher ed are slow to make progressive change but very quick to go forward with bad & harmful changes. Anyway, here’s the sticker I was buying at an art fair when the news dropped that NCTE voted to de-charter CCCC
Black and white sticker with black text that reads “May we all continue a practice of refusal as a necessary form of resistance survival and refuge”

i am not 100% sure whether @wesaketchak.bsky.social is the original maker of this mash-up but i am 100% sure that it is brilliant and was crafted for my enjoyment particularly
A multi-panel using the style and characters from Calvin & Hobbes, but with dialogue and art referencing the book "House of Leaves."

In the first panel, Susie Derkins approaches Calvin and asks "Hey Calvin, you want to play "House"?" but the word "house" is in blue text.

Second panel: Calvin respond "I don't know. How do you play?"

Third panel: From our POV we see a doorway, through a doorway, through which another doorway is visible, through which is visible another doorway... between rooms, Susie can be seen moving laterally.

Panel four: Susie is walking through a massive hallway. Other doors, turns are visible. She seems so small, as though the ceiling is several dozen feet above her, as though she has been reduced to a child's toy in a house.

Panel five: Calvin is in the dark, in his pajamas now, holding a flashlight which seems to have found a large hole in the floor.

Panel six: Calvin is running downstairs in the dark, a vague shadow in pursuit of him, as he yells "HELP HELP! IT'S AFTER ME!"

Panel seven: Bird's-eye view of a typical-looking house.

Finally! 🤩 Our position piece: Against the Uncritical Adoption of 'AI' Technologies in Academia: doi.org/10.5281/zeno... We unpick the tech industry’s marketing, hype, & harm; and we argue for safeguarding higher education, critical thinking, expertise, academic freedom, & scientific integrity. 1/n
Abstract: Under the banner of progress, products have been uncritically adopted or
even imposed on users — in past centuries with tobacco and combustion engines, and in
the 21st with social media. For these collective blunders, we now regret our involvement or
apathy as scientists, and society struggles to put the genie back in the bottle. Currently, we
are similarly entangled with artificial intelligence (AI) technology. For example, software updates are rolled out seamlessly and non-consensually, Microsoft Office is bundled with chatbots, and we, our students, and our employers have had no say, as it is not
considered a valid position to reject AI technologies in our teaching and research. This
is why in June 2025, we co-authored an Open Letter calling on our employers to reverse
and rethink their stance on uncritically adopting AI technologies. In this position piece,
we expound on why universities must take their role seriously toa) counter the technology
industry’s marketing, hype, and harm; and to b) safeguard higher education, critical
thinking, expertise, academic freedom, and scientific integrity. We include pointers to
relevant work to further inform our colleagues.Figure 1. A cartoon set theoretic view on various terms (see Table 1) used when discussing the superset AI
(black outline, hatched background): LLMs are in orange; ANNs are in magenta; generative models are
in blue; and finally, chatbots are in green. Where these intersect, the colours reflect that, e.g. generative adversarial network (GAN) and Boltzmann machine (BM) models are in the purple subset because they are
both generative and ANNs. In the case of proprietary closed source models, e.g. OpenAI’s ChatGPT and
Apple’s Siri, we cannot verify their implementation and so academics can only make educated guesses (cf.
Dingemanse 2025). Undefined terms used above: BERT (Devlin et al. 2019); AlexNet (Krizhevsky et al.
2017); A.L.I.C.E. (Wallace 2009); ELIZA (Weizenbaum 1966); Jabberwacky (Twist 2003); linear discriminant analysis (LDA); quadratic discriminant analysis (QDA).Table 1. Below some of the typical terminological disarray is untangled. Importantly, none of these terms
are orthogonal nor do they exclusively pick out the types of products we may wish to critique or proscribe.Protecting the Ecosystem of Human Knowledge: Five Principles

Games are a unique art form. They are direct instructions, with an audience primed to follow them. They are unlike music. Unlike graphic arts. Unlike fiction. Game design is about how instructions focus us, inspire us, outrage us, motivate us, reveal us, help us connect to each other.
