✅Science ✅Tertiary Education ✅Commercialisation ✅Fellowships ✅✅ Innovation What is this?!?!? All these things… in one policy announcement?! 😱 It’s almost like someone has actually figured out that these things are connected… 💚
The Green Party's economic development plan includes:
• Innovation Boost: Rescope Investment
Boost to focus on incentivising productive investment that aligns with industry policy objectives, decarbonisation, and decent work principles.
• Mission Fellowships: Support stable public science and workforce
capability by establishing industry policy objectives-linked fellowships for early- and mid-career researchers and technical specialists.
• Idea to Export Pathway: Create a coordinated funding and commercialisation pathway that helps New Zealand innovators move from business experimentation and research through to validation, commercialisation, and scaling.
• Science Rebuild: Restore core science operating funding lost through the Coalition Government's Budget cuts to work towards the goal of aligning our R&D spend to 3% of GDP.
• Back Kiwi-Made: Use public purchasing power to support good New Zealand solutions.
• Tertiary Innovation Boost: Boost funding for tertiary research, innovation, and capacity (including restoring funding for initiatives like the centres of vocational excellence).

Probably found it hard because strategic targets generally work best when you have an actual business strategy linked to reliable, quantitative data, which National never has and never will.

This, of course, forgetting that Luxon was all piss & vinegar about his "quarterly action plans" where he somehow decided that running a country could be broken into quarterly strategic targets until that all got a little too hard and we quietly stopped hearing about them after the first year.

"You can still go to school", said the Minister for Shitty Lunches and Truancy after being told by kids that it was the school holidays actually. He instinctively manufactures a way to somehow appear to be in the right even in the face of obvious ignorance. Such a weak, insecure ego.

With Act and their like, the objective isn't what they're talking about or announcing; it's what they're not. Ask about whether Act will be extending their assisted dying policy. What does that mean for the disabled or elderly communities? The story isn't AI cabinet papers; it's the dark corners.

I'm not saying I blindly agree with this; only that the headline on RNZ isn't quite the full story. The devil is absolutely in the detail and I'd have grave reservations about AI being deployed in making policy recommendations or drafts for approval in a black box of any judgement and due process.

It looks like (in the story) he was able to eventually muddle through something resembling a list of different parties' tax policies, but I wouldn't say it was a convincing effort.

I listened to that interview. That's not entirely the full story. Yes Seymour thinks AI should be involved in a lot of the routine bureaucratic administrivia but with a human or MP still in the mix to verify results. Not sure how where sentient holograms factor into the equation.
