The Corran Ferry service is one of #Scotland 's busiest single-vessel crossings, but is currently served by ageing boats. Highland Council hopes to award a contract for a new electric ferry in March next year, with the replacement anticipated to enter service in early 2029. #goodnews #EV #Climate

What's happening here? Maybe something changed part way through 2023 on urban/residential 30mph roads! I wonder if it could be that from Sep 17th 2023 95% of roads with a 30mph limit were changed to 20mph. #20splenty making your place an even better, safer, quieter, fairer place to be!

This is how we should see these magnificant animals, not hauled up on a boat or in fillets on a slab. We should no more catch or kill this rare and stunning megafauna than we should trap or kill tigers or whales. Here are some more of Rupert’s photos from yesterday, with his kind permission.

We will need both carrot (incentives for clean energy) and stick (disincentives for fossil fuels) to follow the needed decarbonization pathway. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something — probably (directly or indirectly) fossil fuels.

The ability to pour hundreds of millions of pounds into a loss-making TV channel, bent on wrenching British politics sharply to the right, is yet another of the ways in which extreme wealth is trying to remake UK democracy. It needs to be part of any serious conversation about political funding.

Obviously the oil and gas industry should be made to pay for the plugging of America's 3.5 million orphaned oil and gas wells. But in the meantime, the Well Done Foundation is plugging some of the wells (more than 120 so far), and raising awareness of the issue. welldonefoundation.org

EVs are awesome. I have a Hyundai Ioniq 5, which has a range of 300-350 miles. I charge it at home, which is convenient, and it costs me about $10 to completely recharge the battery. (84 kWh at 12 cents a kWh) Compare that to a similar size gas car, at 25-30 mpg, which would cost $54 to fill up.

Making sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from direct air capture and green hydrogen currently costs roughly $5.00 to $8.00 per liter. This makes synthetic e-fuel roughly 5 to 15 times more expensive than conventional fossil-based jet fuel, which is about $0.50 to $1.00 per liter.
