Releasing the five people arrested by the airbase on bail after 24 hours is so weird, would be fantastic if it turns out they were just up to no good on an unrelated minor jape and accidentally created an international security story.

Dolly Parton helped fund Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine in between providing free books to children. That’s not a joke. That woman saved lives and taught kids how to read, while be stunningly beautiful and entertaining us all. What a legend.

One seriously old sock ~ child’s split-toe left-foot sock, multi-striped with plant-based pigments, 1,700 years old, from ancient city of Antinoupolis, Egypt. (The right-foot one hasn’t been found, so maybe check your sock drawer) www.britishmuseum.org/collection/o...

New PM, same old media: Burnham is now simultaneously being accused of spending money he hasn't got on the policies he announces *and* not spending enough money on the policies he announces.

The UK can reverse its fertility decline (unlikely), accept lots more immigration (very difficult), join the Single Market (possible but not for now), focus all its effort on a few growth sectors (hard to see). Otherwise it will be pretty poor. Look, I don't make the rules.

🧵 1. This is so staggeringly dumb. Here’s Trump’s infinite strategic wisdom: He launches a reckless war that undermines and rattles the Arab Gulf States’ entire business model, exposes them to Iranian attacks and inflicts heavy economic damages once Iran shuts the Strait of Hormuz. Paradoxically…

So much better than the 2015 JCPOA, right? Trump is duped into an unnecessary war. Military superiority upended (Hormuz), the regime&HEU intact, Iran is stronger than it was on Feb. 28. You then threaten annihilation but negotiate a deal worse than the one you unilaterally withdrew from in 2018. Art

I wonder how feelings would change if everything written about Starmer wasn’t a hit-piece? Have we not risen from 6th to 5th largest economy? Have we not reduced waiting lists? Are those “all important” channel crossings not down by 40%? Is lifting half a million children out of poverty a bad thing?

So, the USA has seen 13 soldiers killed, seriously depleted its military resources, sent prices of gas & goods through the roof, spent tens of billions on a war to arrive at a situation where Iran is now charging $2m per ship to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. When will the winning ever stop?
