The Alberta separation referendum is a VERY dangerous kind of vote, & that’s exactly what Russian and American operatives are counting on…separatists will have a 100% turnout, while media reports that separation is unpopular make it seem like general turnout isn’t necessary. Turnout wins elections.

One of the major points holding back the real potential of bike lanes in Calgary is an abundance of safe & secure parking that is easy to use. Most who ride into downtown only do so b/c their work offers a secure option. CalgaryParking only offers secure bike parking on a monthly contract basis.🤷‍♂️

Parking is also a real drain: very few municipal tax dollars for parking lots and spots. They also don't build neighbourhood character. They also aren't attractive. As someone who lives inner-small city, I'm annoyed that people who drive and park downtown don't care about the folks who LIVE downtown

No doubt that McLean is plugged into what the upcoming legislation will actually do. Targeting 26 Ave SW is heartless given that we've had a fatality only recently and no doubt many close calls, and that THERE ARE ALREADY BIKE LANES so further impact to traffic and parking is slim to none.

And there it is - McLean wouldn't be talking about 26 Ave SW like this if the upcoming legislation wasn't going to target it. Note the Mayor's comment at the end that every bike lane project for the last decade could be added up and wouldn't cost as much as a single suburban interchange #yycbike
