In the still between the pre-game parking frenzy and the post-game automobile exodus, a group of youth are playing street hockey on the quiet road around the corner from the shop. 1 - Street hockey urbanism FTW 2 - It sure is nice to have a hockey team on the block worth cheering for.

My main reflection halfway through week WITHOUT bike lanes is that riding on the road with drivers is slooooooow. Easily +10 minutes to get around compared to bike lanes. BIke lanes don't cause traffic congestion, it's too many people trying to get around using inefficient vehicles (cars). #yegbike

Observations on day 3 of Week without Bike Lanes: -The impact of construction downtown is barely noticeable on major car routes, especially in comparison to the impact on bike routes -Traffic is so slow -Much more empathy than antagonism from drivers as we're all stuck in traffic together #yegbike

If riding in traffic alone doesn’t feel comfortable, join a group and make the trip together. We now have routes connecting more of downtown, Whyte, U of A, Mill Creek, 124 Street, Inglewood and Pleasantview. Check the updated map: yegbike.info/events

Observations on day 1 of a Week Without Bike Lanes: Traffic is sooooo slow and inefficient. Got several compliments on my sign, and one "pop a wheelie!" from a truck bro. No nastiness or aggression so far. Taking the lane is even more fun with friends. #yegbike

Week without Bike Lanes is just beginning. How was your commute this morning? The number one thing we've heard already is that people don't feel safe taking the lane alone. That's exactly why Edmonton needs safe infrastructure.

For the morning commuters: Avoid Mill Creek Ravine. There is a massive mud-bottomed lake at the bottom of the hill at the north entrance, more than 24 hours after the storm. Also, the tree down on 83rd Ave between 101 & 102 Streets is still there as of 11:30pm. Bypass via car lane. #yegbike

I love bike lanes. I love them when I ride my bike. But I also love them when I drive my car; they reduce my stress as a driver, and make the automobile traffic flow more smoothly. (Proper divided lanes are best - sharrows worse than useless.)

On the southeast approach to the High Level Bridge, this weekend's rain has caused erosion and bank slumpage. Use caution as the gap between the sidewalk & grass could seriously entrap a wheel or foot. It wouldn't be surprising if the city closes off the route. #yegbike
