3. The bus has been busier than normal, which could have more to do with service cuts and school being back in session, but it’s been full buses all day long. 4. The driving is aggressive and awful as usual. 5. It’s so much more quiet near Rose Quarter.

PSA: if you’re a boomer on the eastbank esplanade in Portland riding two abreast and a bike behind you dings their bell a few times warning that you are about to get passed don’t be surprised when you get passed when there is space to pass you. Turn up your hearing aids, leave room for others.

Does anyone in PDX metro area know about resources for family cargo biking in Vancouver WA? I know someone looking for either a trustworthy navigation app for biking that takes into consideration safe routes for kids or a good map. I found Vancouver’s map online but can’t find a hard copy option.

Anecdotally: I-5 being closed pushed some folks to transit, and this is a brilliant example of a) why we need to just demolish the inner eastside part of I-5 and b) why when we do that it will be just fine.

it's two things, to me: 1) trans rights matter because trans people matter and deserve rights, not just because failing to stand for trans rights is a bellwether for inauthentic progressivism more broadly 2) if you can't be trusted on trans rights you can't be trusted on anything

This is a great discussion on helmets. Only in America must we wear protective equipment because it’s widely assumed that biking is an inherently dangerous activity that requires protective equipment. Driving 30 miles an hour near other cars driving 30 miles an hour is inherently more dangerous!

This is important journalism (in part) because it reflects very personal, uncomfortable, and often exasperating experiences that me and my friends who grew up in the Bay have with our aging parents. For many of our parents, there is no crisis because Prop 13 means they are still living in 1993.

It really annoys me when people defending car dependency try to minimize the importance of mobility for children. Kids both want and deserve the freedom to move around their communities and they should be able to do so safely.

I avoid biking with my kids on one of PDX’s greatest pieces of bike infrastructure because it’s so dangerous. When you aren’t almost getting doored by someone getting out of their car, you might be almost getting hit as they swerve over the bike lane into a parking spot or driveway (or turn lane).

I am beyond frustrated at what is going on here. The City of Portland owns & operates this, and affordable lessons are available on the city website. The City is privatizing it - they're selling it off to the USTA and when it finishes the refurbishing, it's not going to have public lessons anymore.

A few seats away, a white-bearded man sat on the bus clutching a carefully folded plastic bag. Ron 'Goober' Gudmundson said the changes will upend his carefully constructed routine. A retired delivery driver who gave up driving in 1992, Gudmundson takes several buses every day

People make arguments in favor of the electoral college like “it protects the interests of small states” and no it doesn’t. Oregon is a small state, but because we’re a reliable vote for the Democrat (and with a late primary too) our votes mean nothing.
