Is there an overview of the solo-RPG field somewhere, with key systems, mechanics and titles, or would a kind, knowledgeable friend spend a few minutes on a call to brief me? (This is not an excuse for you to recommend your favourite solo game. That is pretty much the opposite of what I'm asking.)

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Anthropic and OpenAI sound the alarm on AI safety — and seek to shape how it's controlled
As tech titans warned an AI-weary world that their own advanced systems could endanger humanity, the question emerged: What do they have to gain?

Does my Speak-n-Spell feel pain when I type O-U-C-H? The jury is out. Philosophers and neuroscientists say that's fucking stupid, but I called a guy from the Center for Pretending that Household Electronics Are Sentient and he said there's no way to know for sure.

Right this is what I find so maddening. As far as I can tell, the problems LLMs are "solving" are caused by a combination of increasingly constraining application design and learned helplessness. MS office used to ship with a version of Visual Basic!

I'm so tired of growing up never feeling like real growth, and instead being a constant rediscovery that yet another group of what I thought were responsible adults is actually little more than empowered toddlers.

Great system, no notes www.propublica.org/article/scho...
Voucher programs and the private schools they increasingly fund have proliferated across the country. Yet those schools often reject children with disabilities — the very kids who were used to help sell early voucher programs to lawmakers and the public - for having needs that are too costly, complex or disruptive. That leaves those children with few options beyond the public schools. And as public schools lose enrollment as a result of more and more
voucher use, they lose resources that would benefit children who remain, including those with disabilities.

I think it makes sense to wonder whether or not Ed Zitron has a financial incentive to skew the truth, but it's very telling that the people most vocal about this particular type of skepticism, treat it as something that only ever applies to Ed and to nobody else in the AI space.

Unpopular opinion: When someone is factually wrong about something important—eg vaccination—telling them that they’re wrong is treating them with respect. The condescending thing to do is indulge them, act like they have a point, as if the thing you know to be wrong might be at least somewhat right.

I occasionally get accused of having my head in the sand on this issue and not taking AI advancement seriously. The invention of the machine gun was a huge deal. It caused substantial change. AI is a massive development. But at the end of the day, it just lets people do people stuff, faster.

And that's a huge change! It's going to change a lot of things. But the most visible and impactful change to most people is that we'll all suffer way way more fraud Still zero reason to believe it'll cure cancer or figure out interstellar travel.

I keep seeing AI described as a massive shift in the nature of humanity and our understanding of consciousness But when I look at how good these new models are at hacking, I think oh we've basically just built the computer equivalent of the machine gun.

Cofnas' ideas *have* been refuted on empirical grounds. Pretending otherwise is pure malice. They belong in the academy no more than do vaccine denial, anti-stratfordianism, flat-earth, and the aether theory. Barring them is not an impediment to academic freedom. It IS academic freedom.
