NGL, mostly political hot takes. Politics: I believe that people (as in the general public), their quality of life, and their enrichment should always be the priority of a healthy society. Also a meh nature photographer, inactive attorney, science buff.

Samuel Alito flew two flags used by insurrectionists. Clarence Thomas' wife plotted to overturn the 2020 election. Both justices refused to recuse themselves from SCOTUS cases related to the January 6th plot. It's a stain on our nation that this has effectively been forgotten.

Beyond that, he was-and this is uncomfortable to write at this moment, though obviously relevant- himself an apologist for political violence, specifically in the matter of the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the Capitol and the attempted coup
d'état of which it was one theatrical component. Donald Trump, into whose service Kirk allowed himself to be entirely impressed, body and soul, is an admirer of violence and a celebrant of it. Kirk began his career in public affairs criticizing overweening central government and ended it waving away due-process concerns as black- masked agents of the state dragging people away into unmarked vans. Without quite meaning to, he spent his adult life documenting his own
intellectual corruption. All of that will matter to how Charlie Kirk is
remembered.

This afternoon, in addition to Charlie Kirk, there was a school shooting. Bullets don't know and don't care if you are a Republican or Democrat. It is time for Republicans and Democrats to find a way to work together to reduce gun violence. www.wcpo.com/us-news/crim...

Acts of political violence aren’t acceptable. Non-political school shootings aren’t acceptable. Sacking the legislature isn’t acceptable. Military occupation of peaceful American cities isn’t acceptable. Abductions conducted in courthouse hallways by masked agents of the state aren’t acceptable.

what is wild about the epstein birthday book is how the entries reveal not only that everyone knew about him, but that it was *all* they knew about him. no "thanks for all the laughs" or "remember the Cher concert?" just joke after joke about preying on kids. wealthy creeps devoid of dimension.

Saying "crime is down," is not in any way accepting the premise that crime is up. Definitely not so high that they would want to be invaded by arm troops. Besides, Memphis, TN is the most commonly identified, "most dangerous city in the US." Why not invade there?

Obviously that number is false, but pretending it's true, it basically would mean, if the murder rate was roughly the same as 2024, that there were 2 murders in 9 days instead of 3. Even pretending 9 days is a sample size of any value, touting that number is absurd to the point of parody.

I implore you, US politicians, to understand that what the majority of people want, is simply for you to DO THE JOB OF GOVERNMENT. That is, ensure the bottom two rungs of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, so that we can pursue the other three. That's it. That's all. No more. Just that.

There is. I did not make up the concept of "a reasonable expectation of privacy." It is a very old common law principle. It basically says that if you FA in public, then the public is allowed to FO.

this guy has been with the Border Patrol for almost 30y, with most of his assignments apparently in Southern California (www.cbp.gov/newsroom/loc...), but put him under this admin and he talks to his neighbors like he's the general of a foreign army of occupation. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/07/u...
Mr. Newsom and local leaders had expected the troops to return to their regular duties once the protests had died down. But the president has released only 150 Guard troops for firefighting efforts, and Gregory Bovino, a Customs and Border Protection chief in Southern California, indicated Monday that the Trump
administration intended to make itself seen across the city. "Better get used to us now, cause this is going to be normal very soon," Mr. Bovino told a Fox News reporter. "We will go anywhere,
anytime we want in Los Angeles."
