I guess there have been worse defensive performances in the history of football than Florida State tonight against Alabama. Probably. Maybe.

The accounting is in: In Oregon there are 111 data centers. The TOTAL number of people employed at data centers is just 2,630, or 0.1% of the labor force. Those 100 data centers consumer 23% of all electricity used in Oregon. Meanwhile, electricity rates skyrocket as more centers are built.

No one, not a single person of note, is arguing that universities should not enforce rules against plagiarism. What we are pointing out is that it is insane and disproportionate for the attention of an entire country to move to one plagiarist until he kills himself.

Incredible. When E—n M—k & his crew obliterated USAID in a weekend, they deleted a vast trove of publicly-funded knowledge: the Development Experience Clearinghouse. A Canadian high school student (!) happened to have downloaded the entire thing for a project. AidData has now posted it for all.

What role in the military is least mythologized in popular culture and fiction relative to its actual importance in warfare? Probably like logistics maybe? Essential but you never see stories about heroic logisticians.

The reason I want the African teams to win is because a lot of folks have weird commentary on African soccer though their European teams a full of Black folks. The colonization mindset isn’t gone. So, I want them to win because they have the talent which they’ve shown.

Completely agree with @rickhasen.bsky.social. After tonight’s decision, it isn’t just impossible to win a Voting Rights Act claim—it’s also impossible to win a *constitutional* claim against egregiously racist gerrymandering. The supermajority massively expanded Callais. electionlawblog.org?p=156541
The majority's opinion accompanying the ruling is astounding, and in fact is potentially just as significant as Callais despite its brevity and tentative nature given that it is a shadow docket ruling.
The way it is written makes me have no doubt it was drafted by Justice Alito, who has concocted an elaborate edifice across numerous cases to make it virtually impossible for minority voters to elect representatives of their choice.

We do not have voting rights in this country anymore. We just don’t. We did for a while because Congress codified them pursuant to a constitutional amendment enacted by the people in a great repudiation of the original sin of slavery. But the Supreme Court has nullified that law and that amendment.
Weeks ago, I warned that vacating the District Court’s
injunction in these cases would “unleash chaos and . . . con-
fuse voters.” Caster, 608 U. S., at ___ (dissenting opinion)
(slip op., at 4). Nevertheless, the Court forged ahead. Now
the Court is squarely faced with a record of the turmoil it
has caused and the harm it has wrought. Yet just as Ala-
bama doubled down on racial discrimination, the Court to-
day doubles down on chaos. Because I choose to defend the
rule of law and the right of all Alabamians to participate
equally in democracy, I respectfully dissent.

Because much of what the OMB is proposing is illegal, Congress needs to know about it. Yes, even the conservative ones you think don't care-- they know how much their states benefit from federal science funding, and I promise you, they do in fact care. Contact them!

The previous passage and this one are why it’s worth it to read the whole thing if you want to engage with it in a meaningful way. It’s not 40k of boilerplate plus some juicy stuff.
67. Today, among the goods that are universally intended for everyone, we must also include new forms of property, such as patents, algorithms, digital platforms, technological infrastructure and data. In a context where the wealth of nations depends increasingly on knowledge and technology, when these goods remain concentrated in the hands of a tew, without adequate forms of sharing and access, a new imbalance is created that contradicts the universal
destination of goods. In turn, it widens the gap between the included and the excluded, between those who can participate in the digital revolution and those who remain on the margins. Furthermore, care for our common home and our responsibility toward the poor and future generations require that the use of the goods of creation and the new possibilities offered by technology be regulated in such a way as to respect the environment, avoid waste and prevent new forms of exploitation.

The principle of the universal destination of goods
65. "Among the numerous implications of the common good, immediate significance is taken on by the principle of the universal destination of goods." [85] First of all, this principle reminds us that the earth's goods — soil, water, air and natural resources — are given by God to the entire human family to sustain the lives of all, and that every person has an inherent right to the use of such goods, both now and in the future. Saint John Paul Il recalled that, "God gave the earth to the whole human race for the sustenance of all its
members, without excluding or favoring anyone." [86] Consequently, "it is not in accordance with God's plan to use this gift in such a way that its benefits accrue solely to a select few." [87] Today, we are called to recognize that this universal destination applies not only to material goods, but also to immaterial and cultural goods.
