A map outline of #parishes of #Lanarkshire, #Scotland. I can't attribute this because I did not note down years ago where I came across it. I found it very helpful when visualising what the parish registers were telling me about #baptisms and #marriages of #ancestors and who were near neighbours.

Working on #Forbes of Culloden line just now & pleased to be reminded that Duncan Forbes, 3rd of Culloden (1644-1704), MP, was the author in 1698 of "Ane Account of the Familie of Innes" (his wife's family), a text I've often used in #familyhistory researches. #Genealogy travels well in time.

The Anglo-Scottish border, first agreed at the Treaty of York on this day 1237, has proved one of Europe’s most enduring national land boundaries. The only modifications have been to the 'Debatable Lands’ north of Carlisle and to Berwick-upon-Tweed, retaken by England in 1482.

When I first got enthused by #familyhistory I made the mistake of being too pushy about it and then felt disappointed when my excitement wasn't shared by others. It was unwise. It's no service to people to be throw out your knowledge or information unrequested. It's kinder to be patient.

There’s nothing odd about name changes. Names evolve and change with time, language and historical culture. What is disturbing is that an 80 year old narcissist assumes to himself -and him alone- the decision to override cultural norms to change an accepted name out of sheer peevishness. #Ontario
