My hot take is that I would also like questions of violation and resolution and rehabilitation and correct community response to be straightforward enough to cover in 300 characters. But they're not, and to pretend otherwise is both dangerously reductive and a disservice to everyone.

If nothing else AI is making clear that there are people all around us for whom writing, art, and music are not communion with another mind, but just - wallpaper. Just pleasant things to look at. They think AI is conscious because they have no actual grasp of what it is to encounter another mind.

15 years ago when Apocalypse World was new and people were beginning to understand and work with it, it was seductive to look at "acting under fire" and see, not one basic move of several, but the template underlying all the game's moves. Like @kierongillen.bsky.social 's classic gag:

Some bright spark on Facebook discovered the book from which John Byrne referenced the fight choreography for Iron Fist's fight against the Steel Serpent in Marvel Team-Up #63. I've arranged the photos he used over the panels from the comic:
A page from Marvel Team-Up #63 showing Iron Fist squaring up against another martial arts expert from K'un Lun, The Steel Serpent.
#marvelcomics #comics #comicsky The same page with photos overlaid, showing the poses which Byrne referenced. The next page from the comic...... and the same page with more photos overlaid, including the cover of the book, "Martial Arts of the Orient."

Pompeii is a UNESCO world heritage site not because it was remarkable in its prime, but because it survived to our era untouched: one moment, preserved for all time. But future generations won't know what OUR world was like unless we do the same. This is why we MUST bury Toronto with a volcano

I'm really glad that Code Switch included this part of my interview, because I think these are the points that so often get lost in the discussion of trans panic and why the WNBA might be an ideal target for those anti-trans groups to latch onto. www.npr.org/2026/09/15/n...
We're talking about actual bigotry and the belief that this group of people shouldn't have, like, the same human rights as another group. It legitimizes them. And so the WNBA is a big platform for them to be able to do that. But I think what's actually really insidious about being the target is that transphobia is rooted in white supremacist ideas of who is allowed to be a woman and what a woman should look like. Those beliefs have, you know, negatively impacted Black and brown and non-Western women throughout history.

So what you have is a league in the WNBA that is full of Black women, 7-foot-tall women, masculine women, women who don't fit kind of the traditional markers of conventional white Western ideas of womanhood. And so I don't think it's surprising that transphobic ideas around the acceptable kind of woman are coming and impacting this league.

And I think the last piece that I will say is, I think, in some ways, the lack of visibility that the league had for a lot of years really protected it. Like, it wasn't as successful as it should have been because of racism and homophobia and misogyny. And once it becomes successful, the flip side of that is it really does become a different kind of victim of those ideas. And the fact that you have a league that is all women, predominantly Black women, largely queer women who have been successful and they don't need men to do it, and their product is not necessarily for men. I think that's a threat to the status quo. And so it's not just about protecting women's sports. It's actually about dismantling them from the inside.

Again: "Tilly Norwood" is not a person; it is a shoddy, and also pretty gross puppet. Stop referring to it as "she," and start asking whether there might be something a bit off about wanting to promote a sexualized but also childlike "actor" that can never tell its creators or users "no."

Because Tilly is a pretty object made to be used by men, so of course it’s a “she” to them. Whereas trans woman clearly have interiority & agency who use it to refuse their bullshit hierarchy, so of course we are villainous subhuman monsters undeserving/incapable of having true personhood.
