For years I've heard people like this complain "we aren't allowed to say what we really think". This is presumably the kind of thing they used to feel obliged to keep to themselves.

Why are Swedes deporting Brits faster than any other EU member state under Brexit withdrawal agreement? David Milstead of Brits in Sweden says alarm bells were rung as far back as 2020 by Brits and by Swedish Bar Association. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Why is Sweden deporting Britons faster than any other EU country post-Brexit? | David Milstead
The official talk is of the government acting with understanding and flexibility. But devastated lives tell another story, says David Milstead, a British-Swedish volunteer citizens’ rights campaigner

The BBC is a public sector broadcaster, it doesn't need to publish so many stories online. Maybe it could focus on quality control rather than volume and speed.

This is an inappropriate, credulous & politically biased BBC headline. The claims about savings will be sharply contested. News reports should not imclude what reads as an ediorial endorsememt in the headline www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

This is well worth reading: an interview with the new Chancellor, John Healey, from 2021, talking about regional development and economic growth. It's particularly interesting on what he thinks the Blair/Brown and Cameron/Osborne governments got right and wrong.

The BBC shouldn't have opinion blogs, because the nature of the BBC charter means that you just get 'well, who is to say what way water flows?' stuff that I think just erodes support for the BBC on all sides.

If you ever wondered why the range of apprenticeships in England is so limited and skewed to being either a trainee at a dental or veterinary services chain or a coffeeshop barrista, this explains why. TLDR; apprenticeships are "tolerable for big employers with HR on call, dreadful for anyone else"

Revealed preferences suggest this 37% drop in small boat nunbers (first two quarters) is treated as ×10-x50 times less newsworthy than a 37% increase has been. Given high salience of the issue, should broadcasters try to check/balance that instinct?

Unlikely to happen, especially as the main drive to #RejoinEU stems from a nostalgia for a world that no longer exists, ironically mirroring sentiments behind the LEAVE vote in 2016...

10 years ago, the people of 🇬🇧 voted to BoatyMcBoatface the whole country by voting for Brexit. Long- and short-term residents from Commonwealth countries also had a vote, but this was denied to long-term residents from the EU. This skewed the results by a lot more than the 1% margin that saw OUT win

As a society, we just don't know how to deal with what social media is doing to our brains and our public discourse. It's much easier to reach for the ban button for kids and pat ourselves on the back for "doing something" than it is to confront the fundamental issues. Cynical, pointless posturing

I'm a little surprised that neither the NHS or environmental health services seem able to provide information on the health impacts of prolonged exposure to smoke from toxic fires. Friendly, yet unhelpful, being passed about in a Kafkaesque manner. Is this a symptom of broken Britain?

I remember the argument that after Brexit, none of the possible EU competitors would reach the market share of the City of London. Instead, some financial services would leave Europe all together, with the City of London just losing importance. Looks like another 'project fear' becoming real:
