At some point the UK will have to talk positively about immigration for that to really work. Can you honestly see that being doing by either the Home Secretary or the PM that kept her in place and still talks of immigration as if it’s something that ought to be eliminated?

We still have the continued presence of Mahmood in government and the fact that even Burnham is still talking about immigration as if it needs to be eradicated. Neither of those things requires waiting for a general election before changing them. Yet here we are. It’s the weakest of glimmers.

It would require amongst other things the government to be both willing and able to talk positively about immigration. It’s still difficult to believe that will happen any time soon no matter how many warm words about the EU appear in speeches. Mahmood is the millstone hanging round Labour’s neck

How Burnham is going to try and balance proposals for a National Care Service, while supporting Mahmood's immigration policies is going to...interesting, and by "interesting" I mean fundamentally unworkable. It just cannot work with the hostile immigration policies being pushed.
