I’ve known many other defense secretaries, starting with Cap Weinberger, who served as defense secretary under Reagan. I can say without fear of contradiction that Pete Hegseth is the stupidest and least qualified of them all. He is a danger to the entire world. He must be impeached.

This is great news. Sunny California is legalising plug-in solar (like GB has). There were some fears Gov Gavin Newsom would veto the bipartisan law. The state has 39m+ residents and is one of the largest economies in the world. Another loss for Trump and his fossil fuel pals.

Free movement *does* benefit migrants by giving them more freedom/options, and improves labour market flexibility overall. These are good arguments for it, compared to a managed system, that I've made many times. Burnham's "it gives us Gastarbeiter" is both false and regressive.

On the currency, in Spain there's no obvious nostalgia for the peseta any more. People used to complain that prices went up with the introduction of the euro, in some instances justifiably, but I haven't heard anyone talk about that for ages. I wonder what it's like in other countries?
