Recklessly producing and then accepting a situation where a foreign power can restrict freedom of navigation is not just a strategic defeat, it is a reversal of the most fundamental foreign policy and national security priority of the United States since the founding of the republic.

The very concept of war crimes is a joke to Trump. The same for white-collar crimes and sex crimes. "Crimes" are what Trump hires lawyers and crooked politicians to take care of so he can keep doing what he likes to do.

The story of Chicago's population decline is a story about children. Since 1970, the adult population has been relatively stable and may even be rebounding. But the drop in children is remarkable; it seems to be in freefall. People under 18 make up 86% of the city's total population loss.
A chart showing the change in child and adult population in Chicago since 1970. The adult population in 2020 was 3.7% smaller than in 1970, but the child population was 49.6% smaller.

If we bought a few less bombs, we could probably afford nice things. One thing I'd like to see from the next presidency would be to appoint a special commission to prepare a report on the actual cost to defend the United States from attack. Not foreign wars. Just the cost to defend this country.

Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...

Judge Goodwin: "An anonymous government is no government at all. It cannot be held accountable. A masked agent freely uses force without justifying his actions, and the public cannot name him to challenge his conduct. A regime of secret policing has no place in our society."
V. CONCLUSION
An anonymous government is no government at all. It cannot be held accountable. A
masked agent freely uses force without justifying his actions, and the public cannot name him to
challenge his conduct.
A regime of secret policing has no place in our society. Here, the Government’s power is
derived by the People, and the People must be able to identify the Government when it acts to
infringe on their liberty. Masks obscure government action and deprive the public of its Fourth
Amendment protections.
Therefore, the Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus, [ECF No. 26], is GRANTED. Petitioner
is ORDERED released immediately from civil immigration custody. Respondents are
PROHIBITED from re-arresting and detaining Petitioner absent significant change in
circumstances to justify detention or subject to the determination of a neutral and detached
decisionmaker.
