HOW? • Match each character's image + real name + kayfabe/gimmick name • ... based on faux archival records: VHS boxes, dirtsheet excerpts, match card posters, promo transcripts, pay slips, fan memorabilia, etc. • Every 3 successful matches unlocks additional research materials

Is there enough crossover between pro wrestling and @thinkygames.com-style deductive mystery? Like Roottrees, but with headlocks + armbars WHO? WHAT? WHY? • Identify the roster of a "forgotten" indie wrestling promotion • ...in order to trace the missing funds from their final show, Bloodbath 2000

Feeling a weird survivor's guilt after a recent purge at the day job Why? Clinical enough: headcount in excess of workload What + Who? Seems tranparent. Based on metrics and stacked ranking How + When? Just brutal: Announced last-minute. Rolled out quickly. Amid a national economic crisis. Fuck.

I'm weirdly reassured by the fact that at least one (1) other random Redditor noticed the similarities between The Saja Boys' "Soda Pop" from KPDH and "All 4 Love" by Color Me Badd. Doesn't seem to get mentioned often. Surely I'm not the only Xennial who's picked up on the common vibes?

By any chance, is anyone else using pi.fyi like a de facto Tumblr legacy platform? I just use it as a dumping ground, mostly. Not really socializing, per se. But if you're at least semi-active there, it would be nice to have some moots there. www.pi.fyi/u/paolojcruz

That's interesting—"kalokohan" is used so casually to mean "nonsense" that I never thought to translate it as "madness". But yeah, the trad meaning really is closer to "folly". Which makes sense in context of the lyrics, and has heretical connotations of its own. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foolish...

I missed this because of a BIEN (union) meeting but I swear I'll join one of the next ones. It's so ideal: multiple indie TRPGs (Pinoy-made and otherwise) + venue that's walking distance from my house So encouraging to see full tables, even on the same day as a huge D&D event one jeep ride away

Part of me is somewhat envious of the grid, if only because of the unregulated sprawl that developed here haphazardly if organically post-WW2. (Air raids levelled huge parts of Old Manila.) I get that it ended up very car-centric (as it did here) but at least it *seems* greenish with all the parks.

Another Burnham project—the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, "The White City"—was notorious for its link to proto-serial killer H. H. Holmes Seems like a worthy setting for a deductive mystery game. Fill in blanks to identify the fair-goers' names + fates deadline.com/gallery/devi...

But also I'm fascinated by how an ostensibly progressive social reform movement—and the architecture that represents it—can become a vehicle for more sinister activities. For example, the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition displayed Filipinos in a "human zoo" type exhibit, because "ethnography".

This game got me interested in the history of Miami-Dade County (in general) and Coral Gables (specifically). Partly because the City Beautiful movement was influenced by urban designer Daniel Burnham—and therefore the initial city plans for Manila and Baguio, by way of American era colonial policy.

in case you've never seen it, this is Roger Ebert on The Mummy
There is within me an unslaked hunger for preposterous adventure movies. I resist the bad ones, but when a "Congo" or an
"Anaconda" comes along, my heart leaps up and I cave in. "The Mummy" is a movie like that. There is hardly a thing I can say in its favor, except that I was cheered by nearly every minute of it. I cannot argue for the script, the direction, the acting or even the mummy, but I can say that I was not bored and sometimes I was unreasonably pleased. There is a little immaturity stuck away in the crannies of even the most judicious of us, and we should treasure it.

Sometimes it's not apparent because they're one of multiple creators in a studio. But just as often, they have a new individual name (perhaps alongside their transition). It *does* seem like there's something akin to survivor bias in that POV. Some designers really do stop. Sad, but not a fault.

I don't recall any examples off the top of my head, but there have definitely been instances when a TRPG designer goes radio silent, then later on, I'll retroactively realize I've encountered their newer work on a video game (indie or otherwise), or they're more active as a comic writer/artist now.

It's not *just* an age/generation thing To be fair, the creators seem fairly transparent about their methodology. It's quite rigorous, as far as pop psych fluff goes It looks like the inclusion of characters/franchises is based on having a large enough pool of peers to provide calibrated metrics
