And . . . offspring just got a $500/person check in the mail with letter from DJT that it is a refund for being ripped off by Biden. Seems to be sent to people who bought marketplace health insurance without subsidies. Just before election. Did people know this was coming?

SocArXiv now has a limit of two papers per week. If authors submit more than that we assume they are LLM-generated and reject them all. Normal humans who need to upload a batch of papers, which sometimes happens, must make arrangements. Also today, ArXiv set a two papers per month limit.

The human reviewers are in rebellion. If you use AI to write then send it to AI for review. Create your own preprint servers and journals and do the work yourself of setting up the infrastructure to decide what AI works should "count" as scholarship. #AcademicSky

"If this report is any indication of the [] methodological rigor, neutrality, and objectivity that is to follow if administrators now pressure sociology departments to approach the vision that Rubin has for sociology, it will involve a dramatic decrease, not increase, in its scientific qualities"
The question is not whether sociologists lean left. On average, they do, as do universities in general. The question is whether, as a result, American sociologists are lowering their standards of rigor. If they are not, to criticize them on the basis of their personal political
views is precisely what we mean when we point to politicization. Rubin’s report — and not mainstream journal sociology —
displays all the hallmarks of politicization. She rejects
others not because their arguments are inconsistent, their data cherry picked, their analyses unsystematic [for which she provides no evidence, and ignores contradictory evidence]. Instead, she rejects those whose politics she dislikes, and supports this with
arguments that are inconsistent, data cherry that are picked, and
analyses that are unsystematic.

If this report is any indication of the degree of methodological rigor, neutrality, and objectivity that is to follow if administrators now pressure sociology departments to approach the vision that
Rubin has for sociology, it will involve a dramatic decrease, not
increase, in its scientific qualities.

In the "important" papers I've published, the best parts of the work happened late in the writing process where the logic of the flow of argument made me realize something new. I compare to fiction writers talking about the logic of their characters. Writing is thinking.
