But when I asked an organizer what they wanted to see out of press coverage, they told me they wanted people to see the beautiful things they are building here, and not just the worst stories of the worst of ICE's crimes. What people are doing here is beautiful. It's a tragic beauty, but a real one

Of all the sci fi stories about artificial intelligence I can't think of a single one that proposed an actually very stupid computer flattering and sycophanting human users into completely losing their sense of reality. The AI apocalypse, in fiction, involves AIs that are actually intelligent.

And if you're a sex worker? Forget it. People won't see you as a survivor of either overt or covert sexual violence because your occupation makes you "unrapeable." This, of course, isn't true. But many societies see it this way. Whorephobia is vile like that.

Cozy season is upon us! What could be more cozy than a blanket featuring this snoozing bear? I have this + 4 other designs at www.albaillustration.com/original-art... They are 100% cotton, machine washable, + made in the US. Gift them, throw them over your bed or couch, or hang them on the wall! 🐻
A photograph of a woven tapestry blanket behind held up so the illustration is in view. The blanket features an illustration of a brown bear sleeping on mossy rocks inside of a cave. The roof of the cave is open to the sky, with stars and a crescent moon visible.

The unpredictability is key. When the law is stupid enough, badly written and ambiguous enough, you can never be sure when it's going to step on your neck. Even if today it didn't get you, maybe tomorrow it will. A stupid enough law acts as stochastic terrorism.

A digital sketch of an ornately carved guillotine, an old man with a false crown made of weeds and twigs looks down pensively at a pile of heads that sit beneath the guillotine in the foreground. Through the hole of the guillotine we can see that his hands are shackled.
The blade of the guillotine hangs above his head, ready to drop.

Hi, I'm the ProPublica reporter who's been tracking an unusual stat: U.S. citizens grabbed by immigration agents. I did it because the government isn’t. This is what I found.
White words on a black background read:

50+
Immigration agents have the authority to detain whom they reasonably suspect are in the country illegally. We found more than 50 Americans who were held after agents questioned their citizenship. They were almost all Latino.

~130
Agents also can arrest citizens who allegedly interfered with or assaulted officers. We compiled cases of about 130 Americans, including a dozen elected officials, accused of assaulting or impeding officers.

~20
Among the citizens detained are nearly 20 children, including two with cancer.
