Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

This point regarding AI-produced proofs is of course not new, but is beautifully put here. www.quantamagazine.org/is-ai-the-en... @quantamagazine.org
It’s as if you were teleported to the peak of a tall mountain. Surrounded by fog, you have no idea where you are, or what’s around you. You do not know how your mountain connects to others, and you have no equipment to help you explore, no way to help someone else join you. If you had climbed the mountain yourself, you would have experienced how the human body adapts to altitude and changes in oxygen levels. You might have had to invent tools to navigate, to climb steep cliffs, or to make a shelter. You might have encountered a fellow explorer, gotten lost together in a hidden valley, and found a plant that could be turned into a life-saving medicine.

Instead you’re perched on the peak but in the dark, while the maker of the teleportation machine tells you that it can explore the wilderness better than any human.

I get asked this about my ebike all the time. When people ask something else about my bike & I tell them about @mcbl.bike I regularly get, "oh, that's through the city, then?" No. It's a grassroots nonprofit. Totally it's own entity. Still free & available to residents of the city.

Which would you rather live next to: a) A cafe with a patio that opens after 7am and closes before 10pm quiet hours begin b) a small-to-medium arterial, with typical traffic including illegally modified exhausts and some light drag racing in the wee hours I know which I would prefer.

"But the handicapped need cars!" No, what they need are options in mobility. The tech exists to enable their freedom of independent mobility, but almost always what is lacking is the enabling infrastructure. Bike lanes and quality sidewalks serve everyone.

I feel at the same time, "yes, this!" and also, really this only applies if you're neurotypical, and white, and male, and so on. And when you pile together enough adjectives it's actually a very small group of people. The rest of us almost belong, but are just temporarily embarrased modal humans.

Seattleites are most concerned about traffic safety because we all experience it regularly: narrowly missing getting hit while walking in a crosswalk, seeing people using center turn lanes as their personal speedway, etc. Most people also know someone who has died or been seriously injured:

We also, naturally, also looked at the opposite - scenarios which look very different on the surface, but have the same underlying mathematical structure.
Bonnyrigg Rose beat East Fife 4–2. A 3 × 5 grid is provided to explore the question: “How many different scores could there have been at half time?” The score 3–1 is shown as an example.Two-digit numbers are formed where the first digit is a square number and the second digit is odd. A 3 × 5 grid is provided to explore how many numbers are possible, with 47 shown as an example. The number 400 with the question: “How many different factors does this number have?” A 3 × 5 grid, labelled “Power of 2” and “Power of 5”, represents possible factors. 2^3*5^1=40 is shown as an example.Four counting problems linked by the question “Why do these questions all have the same answer?” The problems concern possible half-time scores in a 4–2 football match, factors of 400, two-digit numbers with a square first digit and odd second digit, and the number of lines connecting five points to three points.

So to zoom all the way back in, if we want buildings like these to (a) exist in walkable neighborhoods & smaller cities and (b) have elevators inside, we need to exert influence on the private (national, but not governmental!) standards-writing bodies that have failed to get with the elevator times.

When you connect a Waymo ride with a bus route, Waymo will pay your bus fare. Which is useful for two reasons: it helps them curry favor with city governments that might otherwise be wary of self-driving rideshares, and it gives them data about where to provide more cars to replace buses later.
