In a week from now, on Tuesday the 13th, I'll be dropping the latest Dowager update! This month, the basic actions have been completely reformatted and reworked, the weapons list has expanded to nearly 50 and seen some big changes, and there's a big batch of new adversaries to fight 😊

The thing is, making fantasy spain would mean having to reckon with religious diversity/conflict/cooperation beyond either "evil heathen" or "all church bad" and the american culturally christian atheist on average isn't ready for it

I'm gonna say that TTRPG designers would benefit from designing outside TTRPGS. I have learned SO much on my forays into creating simple video and board games. It all cross-pollinates.

I’m not trying to beef with anyone, but when your platform can literally change someone’s life because of the spotlight on their work, your choices and words deserve more care. because yes: we know. what are you gonna do about it moving forward?

just remember that basically all forms of power generation do it by heating water & turning turbines. you don't need 5th-level sorcerers casting Lightning Bolt or w/e on dynamos or batteries. exploition of casters w/ the weakest fire or wind magic in your setting could fuel an industrial revolution.

There’s a class of fantasy where the vehicle for expression is both You and Not-You: the robot, the battlesuit, the car, the spaceship, so on. You could probably make this observation stretch to “yugioh is a mech story” under these terms but I’m not interested in seeing how far it can strain, here.

Also they’ve gotta just like, go full Yugioh and shrink the font size to make more text fit…. Again, I’ve designed lots of these bad boys, and they are always fighting with themselves to make the cards do the things a commander “does”, while still enabling a “new” way to play. Unresolved tension

Cards ARE a mess, to be clear. They seem like they allow some neat mechanics, but are far too concerned with being balanced cards to be fun or actually interesting, decklists will either be unplayable jank or incredibly simplistic due to the plethora of restrictions most have 1/2
